The Fiddler Fic
Brian Kinney stopped dead in his tracks the second he heard that awful violin music. Turning, he spotted the greasy haired fiddler directly across the park from him, standing next to the fountaiin.
The crowd around him seemed to be enjoying his efforts and Brian tried his best to ignore him. Justin's hand tightened around his when he saw what it was that Brian was watching.
The young blond stood on tiptoe and planted a soft kiss on his lover's lips. Brian smiled down at him and shook his head.
"Let's go, Bri."
"I'm not letting Ian run me out of the park. We brought Gus here to play and damnit he's going to play." Brian's eyes sought out his son and found him swinging contentedly with a group of other preschoolers.
Both men tried to ignore the musician across the way, but Justin's attention was repeatedly drawn to the handsome young man. He remembered the happier times they'd shared and felt guilty for feeling such things with Brian nearby.
Brian knew by the expression on his lover's face that the young man was thinking about the time he spent with the fiddler and his anger took hold. Pulling his hand free of Justin's Brian set out across the snow and stopped just short of the young violinist.
Surprised by Brian's abrupt departure, Justin watched in silence as Brian hurried toward the crowd. Quickly grabbing Gus, who put up a fight, Justin ran cautiously toward Brian.
Just as he reached the crowd, Justin watched in stunned disbelief as Brian pushed his way past the men and women listening to the beautiful music.
Brian leaned close to the young man and loudly whispered, "You know, you really suck." As he turned to leave he bent, picked up a dollar someone had recently dropped in the violin case and pocketed it.
Pushing his way back through the shocked crowd he wrapped his arm around Justin's shoulder and picked his son up, leading them back towards the swings oblivious to the silence that followed them.
