Way Too Scary

Brian hated hospitals with their awful smells, bells, pings and other alarms.  He hated the helpless emotions of the sick and dying.  And the only moans and groans Brian ever wanted to hear were the ones he generated in his own bedroom.

Brian especially hated thick glass observation windows.  Cut off from what he desired, Brian was frustrated that he could only look but not touch.  With his hand on the glass, Brian continued to stare at the small pale figure on the bed within.

“Hey, Bri.  Sorry I took so long, I had to wait for Gus.”

“Hey, Sunshine,” Brian greeted his partner with a chaste kiss to his lips as he pulled Justin in close to his side.  “Sonny Boy,” he said as he leaned over Justin’s shoulder bussing Gus' cheek and smiling at his son.  “Don’t worry about it, you haven’t missed anything.”

“What did the doctor say?” Justin asked as he and Gus stared through the window.

“Nothing yet,” Brian replied.

“She’s so small,” Gus gasped out in wonderment.

“Takes after her father,” Brian said with a smug smile.

“Not so small,” Justin griped with an elbow to Brian’s ribs.  Gus chuckled at their antics then followed it up with a “TMI” when he got the double entendre.

Just then a resident pediatrician came out of the nursery.

“Mr.  Taylor?”

“I’m Justin Taylor,” Justin identified himself as he stepped closer to the doctor, waving the hospital issued ID bracelet that he wore on his wrist.

“Are you ready to take her home?” the doctor asked.  “I have your discharge instructions.  You can follow up with your pediatrician in a week.”

“We already have an appointment,” Brian interjected.  The doctor nodded his approval then turned to go back into the nursery.

“You guys are really doing this,” Gus stated.  “It must be scary.”

“Very scary,” Brian admitted.  “But it’s too late to give her back, Sonny Boy,” Brian snarked.

“Yes, we’re really doing this,” Justin said ignoring the noises coming from Brian.  Then with a touch of uncertainty in his voice, Justin turned to look up into Brian’s eyes.  “We are doing this, aren’t we, Brian?”

“Of course we are,” Brian softly assured Justin.  Brian gave the younger man a comforting hug as they all waited for their new family member to be prepared for the trip home.

“What’s her name?” Gus asked as he rolled his eyes at their PDA.  The lovers gazed into each other's eyes then smiled.

“Go ahead, Sunshine, you named him, you should name this one too,” Brian said with a smirk.

He smiled his most sunny smile as a nurse came out of the nursery holding their tiny bundle and handing it over to Justin.

Justin proudly announced.

“Gus, I’d like you meet Miss Briana Victoria Kinney-Taylor!”
