Making Contact

“Gonna quit?” Brian asked, prodding Justin with his foot. The young man remained where he’d fallen. “If you’re dead you’ll have to move. We’re in the middle of practice.”

“Pretend I’m a speed bump.”

“Can’t – you’ll slow us down.” Brian leaned down and hauled Justin to his feet. The man groaned and tried to slump against Brian, but started rolling backwards.

“From marketing genius to roller derby king,” Justin sighed. Brian shoved him towards the rest of the team. “This wasn’t what I meant by making contact!”

With a laugh, Brian took off, passing the others easily – just like always.
