Accomplishments

Brian Kinney still maintained that only accomplishments were worthy of celebration and not trifling little things such as birthdays or anniversaries. But like many men who had added wisdom and maturity to their talents as they grew older, Brian Kinney wisely agreed to celebrate the tenth anniversary, more or less, of his partnership with one Justin Taylor and the tenth birthday of his son.

It took little convincing of Brian on Justin's part, a superior blow job here, an excellent and exhausting fuck there, and then one look from those ocean blue eyes and it was all over. Brian Kinney knew he was had and in more ways than one. Brian also knew that he'd be rewarded with endless fucks and blow jobs, but more importantly was the overwhelming sense of love and contentment from Justin that wrapped around Brian like the warmest of blankets. It took years of struggle but Brian finally felt worthy of it, and in his own way, was able to return it.

For Gus, a celebration of this magnitude was a little trickier. Not only did Gus have to convince his father that letting him come to the Pitts and stay for a few weeks was a good idea, Gus had to also convince his moms. Not an easy feat when one of his moms was Melanie Marcus. Gus had not only inherited his father's hazel eyes and good looks and was well on the way to inheriting the Kinney (and Peterson) height, but Gus also inherited the Kinney intellect and talent for negotiation. Gus was soon on a plane heading for Pittsburgh.

The celebrations themselves were typical, a huge birthday party for Gus and a romantic night out for Justin where Brian presented Justin with tickets for a cruise. That night Justin took the word celebration a little too literally. Brian drove them home and poured a tipsy Justin into bed.

But it was afterward, when the fanfare had all died down that it truly was brought home to Brian. Gus had one more week with them, Justin was preparing for a show and Brian was working on a campaign from his home computer. The loft was abuzz with noises of everyday life. Brian looked up from his computer; Gus was taking a break from his games of crash, burn and destruction to watch Justin sketch out an idea for a painting. Justin, with his gentle, patient ways, was happily discussing his thoughts with Gus. Gus, with a sweetness that Brian never had when he was ten, soaked up Justin's attentions like a sponge.

Brian caught Justin's eye for a moment. Justin smiled, a smile only for Brian; the smile that made all the struggles worth it. Brian smiled back then broke out into giggles when he saw that Gus had caught their exchange and in typical pre-teen fashion, rolled his eyes and laughed. Justin laughed too, ruffling Gus' hair before going back to his sketch.

That's when Brian knew he was right all along. It was only the accomplishments that were worth celebrating and he had the two most important accomplishments of his life right in front of him.
