The Nature of Things

Chapter 29

Justin sat in his living room, staring at a painting of Brian and thinking about Molly's suggestion that they raise the baby together. He thought about his niece or nephew out in the world not knowing where he or she came from and he knew that he couldn't let that happen. He just wasn't sure if he was ready or willing to be a parent with Brian.

Molly lay on her bed, hand on her ever expanding waistline and thought about how she would handle things if Brian and Justin didn't go along with her plan. She knew that she couldn't say goodbye to this baby, but she also knew that she couldn't raise him.

The only solution was for Brian and Justin to take this baby and raise it as their own. Unfortunately that plan didn't seem to be working out so well.

Brian swam laps in the pool trying to stop his mind from focusing on raising Molly's baby. His mind told him that there was no way in hell he should say yes to her crazy scheme. His heart on the other hand kept screaming to take a chance.

Brian loved being a father to Gus, though it had taken him a while to get there. Now he attended all school functions and every baseball game Gus had. Being a dad was the most rewarding thing he'd done.

Now he had the chance to be a real father from the very beginning. The only catch was Justin was to be the co-parent. Not only was Brian sure it would never happen, he was positive that Molly was using this baby to try to get Justin to forgive him.

Casey kept that picture under his pillow and he knew that he would find a way to destroy Brian. He'd had his chance and blown it.

Now he was stuck in jail and had to find another way to get to Brian. Michael was out of the question and Craig was starting to get careless in his quest to get rid of his fag son. Casey knew that he had to find a way to get to Brian. He had to find the one thing that would make him wish he'd die.

An hour later he visited with his lawyer about the custody battle that was coming up in two months time. Casey was determined to get his child out of that house even if his lawyer didn't think he stood a snowball's chance in Hell.

Michael sat at the bar drinking another shot of Jack Daniels. Most of his days were spent at Woody's lately and that was the way he liked it. His comic book store was failing because he was never there anymore and he didn't even care.

He'd lost Ben and Hunter, Brian and the respect of the entire town. Nothing was the same anymore and he wasn't sure he even wanted it to be. He'd gotten used to being alone and he was starting to enjoy the silence.

He hadn't spoken to Debbie since he'd told Brian about Justin. She'd called almost every day and stood outside his apartment banging on the door until all hours of the morning and night. Michael never answered the door when he was home. He'd made the decision to cut all ties with everyone except for Jenny Rebecca. He spent all of his sober moments with her at Melanie's house. He barely spoke to Mel and hadn't seen any of the old gang in weeks.

Michael was headed on a crash course that was destined to destroy lives.
