Broken Memories
Chapter 10
Melanie didn't notice the car pull out behind her. She drove to the Center
listening to the local news on the radio. She wasn't paying attention to
anything other than getting to the Center, dropping off the papers and trying
her damnedest to get to the funeral on time.
Walking into the Center, she noticed how empty it seemed. Scanning the room, she
saw no one. "Guess they're all going to Deb's service," she thought to herself
before setting off down the hall to Tannis' office. As she walked into the
office, she wondered why Tannis wasn't there, until she saw the note stuck to
the computer screen. Grabbing it, she sighed as she read the words.
Mel, sorry you came all the way out. I had to step out and handle a crisis at
the bank. Please leave the papers on my desk, I'll be sure to get them out as
soon as I get back from Debbie's funeral. See you there. Tannis
Melanie threw the papers on the desk, angry that she'd had to come all the way
downtown when Tannis wasn't even here. She scribbled a quick note to remind
Tannis that the whole board needed to sign the papers and left it lying on top
of the pile.
She'd just made it to her car when she heard him step behind her. Swallowing
silently she turned, nausea overwhelming her at the smell of Polo cologne that
she hadn't smelt since college. Her eyes locked on Darryll's and she felt the
fear creep up into her throat at the hatred shining in his eyes.
"Melanie, so nice to see you again." He laughed at the smell of fear in the air.
Grabbing the keys from her hand, he smiled at her. "You won't be needing those,
sweetheart. I'll drive." He put his hand on her lower back and started to lead
her away from the car.
She stumbled and dropped her purse, allowing things to spill out, momentarily
delaying his intentions. Darryll stopped and bent to help her pick up things,
not noticing that she slid her phone and the article about Miranda under the car
with hope that someone would put two and two together.

He had her. She was in his car and they were on the way to his house. She hadn't
put up much of a fight and that made him angry. He'd been hoping that she'd
fight him, make it a little fun for him before they got home. He could almost
smell her fear though. It was the fear he liked best. He liked knowing that she
was wondering just what he had planned for her.
If only she knew. He'd only touched the surface of his anger with the others.
Melanie was special. He'd take his time with her. He wanted everything to be
perfect. He wasn't taking her back to where he'd kept the others. He was taking
her home. Home with him. That's where she belonged. Not with that blonde bitch
and those snotty nosed brats. She should be the mother of HIS children.
Instead she was a fucking carpet munching dyke bitch. Didn't she know that he
had a nice cock? Well she was soon going to find out. He'd been fantasizing
about the moment he'd fuck her for years. He could imagine the feel of her pussy
pulsating against his dick as he made her cum over and over again. It was too
much; he could feel the hard on throbbing in his pants. It was quick, he'd been
thinking too much about her spread out for him, and then he felt the warm
wetness sliding down his thigh.
He reached out and slid his hand up Melanie's thigh, stopping just at her
crotch. He could feel the wetness. She wanted him as much as he wanted her.
"We're almost home, honey. We can finally make love just like you've been
dreaming of."
He smiled at her, watching the desire overcome her beautiful face. Maybe if
things went well, he wouldn't have to kill her after all. Maybe they could just
be together. Maybe, just maybe, all of his dreams could come true.

Lindsay glanced around the chapel once more looking for Melanie. She was over a
half an hour late for the service and Lindsay was starting to worry. Brian
glanced back at her once more, his eyebrow raised in question. She shook her
head as she checked her cell once more. This wasn't like Mel. She would be here.
Something must have happened.
The worry showed on Lindsay's face as Brian looked back at her again. This time
she didn't hide the fear in her eyes. She knew he'd understand. Everything in
her screamed to get up and go look for her partner, but respect for Debbie kept
her firmly glued to her seat, checking her silenced phone every few seconds.
As soon as the service was over, Lindsay filed out with the crowds and searched
for Brian. She scanned the crowd until she found him standing next to Michael.
Lindsay pushed her way through until she finally reached him.
"Bri, can I talk to you for a second?" Lindsay glanced at Michael and tried to
think about what he was going through for a moment. "It was a beautiful service
Michael. Debbie would've loved the choir."
"Yeah, an all gay choir would've just tickled her to death." Justin caught the
slip up just a second too late and went right back to comforting Michael.
Brian pressed a kiss to the top of Justin's head and followed Lindsay to her
car. He waited until they'd reached the rental before speaking.
"So, what has you so tense?"
"Melanie's missing."
"What do you mean, Melanie's missing? How do you lose a dyke in Pittsburgh?"
"I'm serious Brian. She was supposed to go to the center then come straight
here. Tannis said she left her a note, and she's not answering her cell."
"Maybe she went back to Britin to check on the kids."
"I called Kate already and she hasn't been there. This is not like her. She
wouldn't miss Debbie's service. I'm worried, Brian."
"There's nothing to worry about, Linds. It's Pittsburgh for God's sake, how much
trouble can she get into?" Brian caught the fear in Lindsay's eyes and knew
he'd said the wrong thing.

Melanie sat in the passenger seat trying to think. She needed
to be calm. Only staying calm would get her out of this alive. She watched
Darryll and tried to remember every turn he was making. His mindless chatter was
not helping matters.
She tuned in long enough to hear him talking about sex. It nearly made her vomit
when she heard him cum in his pants. Then he slid his hand up her thigh and
rested it on her vagina. She swallowed back the nausea and listened with dread
as he talked about making love.
She knew that she had to do whatever it took to stay alive. Even if it meant
letting him touch her. Her mind flashed to Gus and JR. She thought about how
much she loved them both. And she thought about Lindsay. Would she figure out
the clue she'd left behind? Would she ever see her beautiful Shiksa Goddess
again?
Melanie knew that her life hung in the balance, and she began to pray silently
as they pulled up to his house.
