I Want You to Know

Part 65

I opened my eyes and looked around the room groggily. It took me a few minutes to remember where I was. I was reaching for Justin when it hit me that I was in Japan. ALONE. Suddenly my heart began to race and I frantically searched for a phone.

I sat next to her bed, stroking her hair and wondering if Brian were safely in Japan yet. I had been fighting sleep for the better part of the night and felt myself drifting off. I don't know how long I had slept when the beeping woke me. Rubbing my eyes I stared at the machine that registered Sascha's heart rate and saw the flat line. I began to scream for help as I pushed the button to lay her bed flat and begin CPR. Her lips were blue and her hands cold when I begged her to fight. Where was Brian when I needed him? How could he just leave me here to deal with this all by myself?

EMPTY.

COLD.

FRIGHTENED.

PEACE.

Sara, Willow, Thea and Kaelin all woke from a sound sleep and felt the pain. All four knew that she was gone. Tears began to fall as phones began to ring. The sisters banded together to deal with the horror of what was tocome.

Two and a half hours later I sat in ICU with my daughter. She had slipped into a coma after they revived her. No one could understand why or how this had happened, least of all me. My cell had rang constantly and there were several messages waiting. All from Brian I was sure, but I couldn't bring myself to call him. I couldn't leave her.

I walked in to find daddy sleeping in a chair next to my sister and almost broke down. He looked so lost and so alone. I longed to help him in any way I could. I lightly touched his shoulder and waited until he woke.

"Thea?"

"Daddy." I leapt into his arms and finally allowed the tears to flow freely.

"Shhh, baby," he whispered as he stroked my hair. I felt safe in his arms and never wanted to leave. Opening my eyes I found myself staring at all of my sisters. Each one of us had found our way here. We were here to take care of the one of us who couldn't take care of herself.

I was frantic. I hadn't been able to get a hold of Justin for two days now and none of the girls were answering their phones. I had called the hospital but no one could tell me anything about Sascha. I tried to believe that no news was good news but given that I'm Brian Kinney that wasn't working out so well. I called every ten minutes and left more than sixty messages for my partner.

My mind was starting to believe the worst and that was not a good thing for me. It was very late in Tokyo and I was sitting at a bar downing my fourthshot of Beam when my cell finally rang.

"Yeah?" I was convinced it couldn't be Justin and I wasn't disappointed. I was however surprised to hear Sara's voice on the other end.

"Dad? Are you ok?"

"As well as can be expected."

"So you do know?"

"Know what little girl?" My patience was wearing thin and I was getting more aggravated the drunker I got.

"About Sascha."

My instincts were right. She was gone. I closed my phone without another word and motioned for the bottle.
