I Want You to Know

Part 48

Brian and Justin had just come downstairs for breakfast when they were bombarded by Sara and Amy wanting to talk. Brian, of course, grumbled and growled, while Justin sleepily rubbed his eyes and yawned. Neither of them were fully awake without their first cup of coffee and Sara was using that to her advantage.

"Dad, daddy, we need to talk. Amy and I are moving out in a week. We found a great place that has lots of room for BJ to play and crawl. It's beautiful actually, I know you'll love it daddy, it has tons of natural light."

"And there is an extra room for him to have a playroom of his own and we can turn it into a nursery if we decided to have another baby. We're really excited and I just hope you are as well." Amy watched her in-laws struggle just to stay awake and once again questioned if doing it this way was the best thing to do. She had been the one to protest this surprise attack and Sara had told her this was the easy way. She had explained that whenever they wanted something or needed to tell their parents something important, they caught them before that first cup of coffee. Amy was still hesitant about it but went along with the plan.

Brian grumbled something unintelligible to Justin who in turn mumbled back just as incoherently. Amy looked to Sara for a translation and laughed when she saw her partner's face.

"What did they just say?"

"Dad said that it would be over his cold, dead body that we take his grandson from this house and daddy said that could be arranged."

"Are they always like this in the morning?"

"Only before caffeine. Dad is a bear and just grumbles until daddy gives him a large mug of steaming hot coffee."

Brian looked over at his lover who was busy pouring water into the machine and as soon as he smelled the coffee begin to brew his eyes seemed to open ever so slightly. Amy sat in amazement at the transformation that was happening before her. She had been living with Sara and her parents for months now and had never seen Brian look anything but dashing. This was almost too much for her to handle. Sara watched her partner and couldn't suppress the laughter. She was used to her fathers morning routine but to an outsider it must look like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon.

After handing his lover an extra large mug of the dark liquid, Justin turned his attention to his daughter. Looking from Amy to Sara he shook his head at their united front.

"I expected better of you Amy."

"She's very persuasive," Amy explained shyly.

"Just like her father," Brian added. Justin stuck his tongue out at the older man. Brian smirked, "maybe later." Justin rolled his eyes and smiled devilishly at his lover.

"God you two can't stop for even five minutes. Didn't you get enough last night?"

"As I said before, kiddo, there is no such thing as enough when it comes to Sunshine."

"One of the main reasons I have to get out of this house."

"Hey now, it could be worse, you could have had my parents." Brian sighed at the thought that his daughter saw him as nuisance now, just the same as anyone her age would.

"Yeah well, at least I would have been able to live my own life."

"Sara, stop it, you're lucky that your parents love you as much as they do. I wish that my parents were half as understanding about us as yours are." Sara crossed the room and sat down in Amy's lap and pressed a kiss to her lips, to the delight of their son.

Little BJ laughed at him mommies as they kissed and stretched his arms out for his granddad to pick him up from his highchair. Brian obliged the little boy who shared his mother's looks and kissed him softly on top of the head. Letting the little boy down he watched with glee as he crawled across the floor towards his favorite toy across the room. Brian was going to miss having him around the house. It was nice to have another baby around, maybe he should talk to Justin about having more kids.

Sara chose that precise moment to bring up moving out again and Brian shelved the idea of more kids as he listened to her drone on about how she hated living here with her fathers. Justin and Brian offered to help them move and they mapped out a plan for the weekend.

One week after Sara, Amy and BJ moved out, the house seemed extra lonely. We were finally all alone here, just Brian and I once again. Willow had moved in with Rick the month before and with Kaelin married now, Sara had been the only one left at home. Sascha had chosen to move in with Lindsay and Julie for awhile, wanting the chance to get to know her mother better now that her trial was over and she had been acquitted of all charges. Her attorney had convinced her to turn state's evidence against the owner of the club and with her testimony he had been locked up for many years.

It seemed our little family was slowly drifting apart and I hated the thought of it. Brian on the other hand seemed to thrive on the silence and busied himself with a new PR project for Sony. I found him sitting at the desk downstairs, his nose buried in a file. I loved to watch him work, to watch the determination on his face as he studied whatever he was working on at the moment. Brian had wanted to retire a few years back but then decided against it because he would've never survived the boredom of normal everyday life without work to kill the time.

After about ten minutes he noticed I was in the room and smiled at me over his glasses that were perched on the end of his nose. It was just one more sign that he was getting older, but yet another thing that made him irresistible to me. I loved the older, more distinguished Brian Kinney. After all these years he could still make my heart skip a beat when he walked into a room.

Pushing back from the desk he had just settled in beside me on the couch and was nibbling on the special spot on my neck when the phone rang. Deciding to ignore it and allow the machine to pick up, I was just getting hard when I heard Molly's voice break on the line and knew instantly that something was wrong. Grabbing the receiver, I told her I was there and listened to what she had to say.

"Justin, mom is gone."

"What are you talking about Moll?"

"She's gone Justin."

"She probably went to lunch with some friends or something Molly, no need to freak out." I tried to reassure her but her sobs became louder and more uncontrollable.

"No, Justin listen to me, MOM'S DEAD."

"Molly, calm down. This is not funny. Tell me what the fuck is going on and tell me now."

I listened as she explained how she had stopped by mom's to take her shopping and found her lying on the kitchen floor. When she tried to wake her, she was cold and when the paramedics arrived shortly thereafter they said it appeared she had suffered a heart attack and went quickly. After a few more minutes of reassuring her that I  would take care of everything and be over as soon as possible, I hung up and sank down next to my lover, desperate for his strength.

I filled him on what had happened and took refuge in his strong embrace before forcing myself to stand and go to mom's to help Molly with the preparations for the funeral. I had never fully expected to have to bury my mother this early in life, but here I was doing just that. Brian drove me over and stayed with me the whole time. He was wonderful with Molly and knew everything that needed to be done. I let him take over because I was numb. I felt nothing, no sadness, no anger, just nothing. I kept telling myself that once it had sunk in I would cry or I would scream, but somehow I wasn't so sure I would ever feel again.
