I Want You to Know
Part 44
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
One week later
Thea was sitting on her bed working on a new song
with Kaelin when Justin called from downstairs that she had a phone call.
Rushing down, she answered it to hear Mr. Johannsen
on the line.
"Hi Mr. Johannsen, how are you?" Thea asked
nervously.
"Hello my sweet Thea, I am great and I am hoping that
what I have to say to you will make you feel the same way. They loved you.
We have a contract here for you that will enable
you to live your dreams and you will be set for life. All I need for you
to do is come by the office with your attorney and we can get them signed
and get you on the way to being the next Madonna."
"Really? Really? Oh my god that's fabulous. They really
liked it?" Thea asked excitedly.
Justin stood back against the counter listening to
her end of the conversation and from where he stood it seemed like good news.
He waited patiently until she was off the phone and almost fell backwards
when she jumped into his arms.
"They loved me daddy, they loved me. Can you believe
it? They want me to sign a contract and then start recording and by summer
I should be on tour. And do you know what the best part is?" She didn't wait
for Justin to answer before she told him, "they want Kaelin to write the
songs for me. She is going to flip out. It will be so cool to have her be
a part of this."
"Well sounds like they like you kiddo." Justin watched
his daughter as she bounced around the kitchen, not quite sure he had ever
seen her so excited. He still saw her as a small little girl sometimes and
not the eighteen-year-old young woman she was becoming. He watched as she
ran up the stairs to share the news with her sisters and felt a pang of sadness
at the thought of her not living in this house any more.
Brian walked into find Justin sitting at the kitchen
table, an unfinished bottle of Yoo-hoo on the table in front of him and instantly
got worried. The only time Justin drank Yoo-hoo was when he was feeling sad
about something. Sitting next to him, he took Justin's hand in his and kissed
his forehead.
"What's the matter Sunshine?"
"Our girls are growing up." Justin let a lone tear
fall and Brian tried to keep his laughter under control. This was hard on
Justin, he still thought of the girls as children when in actuality they
were almost adults. They would be graduating high school in a few weeks and
then off to college for some, a life on their own for others.
"What happened?"
"Everything happened, they grew up Brian. When the
fuck did that happen? I mean Willow's getting married, Sara has a baby, Sascha
was a stripper and is getting ready to go to
trial on prostitution charges. Thea was just offered a multi-million dollar
recording contract and they want Kaelin to be her song writer. Gus, fuck,
Gus is just like you. He is the new King Stud of Liberty Avenue. You and
I are grandparents for fuck's sake. Its all too damn much."
Brian took Justin into his arms and held him tight,
rocking him back and forth as he caressed his hair. "Its all going to be
ok, Sunshine. We knew that they were going to grow up sooner or later. It
just happened sooner than we wanted but we have to let them go. We have to
let them lead their own lives, just like we did at their age. Do you remember
where you were when you were just turning eighteen?"
Justin smiled at that memory, "I was living with
you."
"And look where it got you."
"Yeah an old man with five kids and a grandchild,
married to an even older man. Somehow I didn't think it would turn out this
way."
"Oh and what did you expect?" Brian watched Justin
think about it before he answered.
"I just never thought that you would ever admit that
you loved me. I mean I knew you did, I just never thought you would be able
to say it. I think for the first time in my life, I'm glad you proved me
wrong. Look at us Brian, we're parents, fuck grandparents, did you ever imagine
being here?"
"Not until I met you. You made me want those things
Justin. You made me see that there was so much more to life than what I had.
You made me love you, you gave me the strength to love you. I love my life
with you. I love our family, even with all the problems because no matter
what we're still a family. I never had that until you came into my life.
I never knew that families could love one another and want to be together.
No matter how far our children go in life, we've given them a foundation
that will lead them back to us. They know that they can count on us, that
we are not going to let them down. Without you we wouldn't have that. You
hold this family together Justin."
"We hold this family together Brian, you and I together.
Without you I would never have had the girls, I wouldn't have Gus in my life.
I love you Brian. I always have and I always will. Now take me upstairs and
fuck the hell out of me so that I still feel like I'm young."
Brian's response was to grab him and throw him over
his shoulder, carrying him upstairs. Once up there he dropped his partner
on the bed and stripped out of his own clothes, his cock standing at attention.
Justin laughed at him and began to unbutton his own shirt as Brian danced
around the room.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Kaelin, Sascha and I were sitting on my bed, talking
about boys when we heard the laughter coming from our parents' room. Sascha
rolled her eyes and we all laughed hysterically.
"Can you believe that they are doing it again?" Sascha
asked rather annoyed.
Kaelin laughed at the way she rolled her eyes, "you'd
think that by now they would be over the sex part of their
relationship."
"Well they are both pretty hot, I mean maybe it's
a good thing that they have such a good sex life." I looked at my sisters
who were staring at me like I had lost my mind and added, "maybe that's why
they have been married for so long."
"You know I was thinking the other day, they aren't
legally married. So that would make us illegitimate," Sascha threw
out.
Kaelin punched her on the arm, "Stop that. Just because
it isn't legal doesn't make it any less real. They love each other and I
think it's cute that they still find each other desirable."
We were still sitting there discussing our parents
when we heard dad call out daddy's name. At that point I turned our music
up as loud as I could to drown out the sounds of our fathers having sex.
Even though we knew that they had a rather active sexual relationship it
was still disgusting to hear it through the walls.
A few hours later we were all still chatting when
the phone rang and I answered it to hear Evan Gold's voice asking for Kaelin.
They had gone out three times in the last week and she was acting like it
was something steady. Handing the phone to her, both Sascha and I sat listening
attentively to every word she said. Only being able to hear her side of the
conversation was of no help since she only answered his questions and didn't
volunteer any information. When she hung up Sascha pressed for
details.
"Ok so spill it, what did Romeo want?"
"He just wanted me to have dinner with his folks and
he wanted to fill me in on them before we went."
"What's wrong with them? Are they straight or something
horrible like that?" Sascha and Kaelin both laughed at me for that comment
and I had to admit it was Brianesque. Maybe I had inherited more of dad than
I thought.
"Nothing horrible like that," Kaelin laughed at me.
"His folks are actually gay and he was worried that would bother
me."
"He didn't know that your folks are fags too?" Sascha
asked astonished.
"Nope, no clue."
"Well it's a good thing you told him," I
said.
"I didn't tell him."
"What? Why?"
Kaelin looked from Sascha to me and back again, "because
I don't think it matters. He will find out soon enough, until then its no
big deal. We're having dinner with his parents tomorrow night."
We were still discussing the dinner when once again
we heard them making love.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
I had agreed to meet Evan at the library, since I
didn't want to have to introduce him to my folks just yet and I was early
as usual. I sat down on the bench outside and waited for him to arrive. As
I sat there I thought about my fathers and their life together. It was obvious
that they were deeply in love. That was a good thing in my book. I was still
sitting there lost in thought when Evan walked up.
We made small talk about the weather and school on
the way to dinner. Once there he got out and came around, opening my door
for me. I looked around at the small rambler
that his parents lived in and couldn't help but compare it to our house.
I knew that his father was a musician of some sort and his other father was
a computer technician or something like that. Compared to dad and daddy they
were poor, but then again, compared to dad, Donald Trump was poor. I'll never
forget how dad always reminded us that there was nothing noble in being
poor.
As I stood in the tastefully decorated living room
Evan introduced me to his fathers.
"Kaelin, I'd like you to meet my fathers, Ethan Gold
and Steven Rogers. Dad, Pop this is Kaelin Taylor-Kinney."
Mr. Gold extended his hand and took mine in a firm
handshake, studying me intently as he did. "Taylor-Kinney? By any chance
are you related to Justin Taylor?"
"Yes, he's my father, do you know him?"
"Sort of," he answered and I stared at him for a second
thinking that now that he mentioned it his name sounded really familiar.
"How is Justin?"
"He's good, he is opening his own gallery this summer.
Dad has been really supportive of the venture and I think that it will be
good for daddy to have someplace to call his own."
"Ahhh, Brian Kinney, so they are still together after
all this time."
"Yes, they are. Just how do you know my fathers? I'm
sure I've heard mention of your name but I just can't place it." I looked
at him with curiosity and was determined to find out just how he knew my
parents.
"Let's just say we go way back, this is not the time
nor place to go into old history." Mr. Gold walked back to his seat and I
was taken aback at the abrupt ending to our conversation, but filed it away
to ask my parents about later that evening.
Dinner with the Golds seemed to go well except
every now and then I caught Mr. Gold staring at me with a sort of sadness
in his eyes and it unnerved me a little. When Evan drove me home later that
night I still felt the awkwardness. He pulled up in front of the house and
shut the engine off. Turning to face me he smiled slightly before leaning
in to kiss me. With his arms around me and his lips on mine I felt safe,
safer than I had in a long time. He was a really good kisser, not that I
had that many people to compare him to, but as his tongue danced with mine
I got goose bumps and my heart raced. He broke the kiss only when both of
us became lightheaded from lack of oxygen. Evan pulled me close and held
me for a long time, before letting me go. I looked at him, sitting in the
darkness, his dark hair curling slightly just above his shoulders, and couldn't
stop myself from falling in love with him.
"I should go," I said reaching for the door only to
be stopped by his mouth on mine once more. The kiss deepened and I wrapped
my arms around his neck, pulling him closer.
We had only gone out a few times but I knew he was the one. Now I just had
to figure out what to do about it and how to tell my fathers.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
I was sitting at the window, waiting for Brian to
arrive home with the ice cream when I noticed the small sports car pull into
the driveway. I could see two people inside and it took me a moment to realize
it was Kaelin. She must have gotten a ride home from the library, I
thought, until I saw the young man lean in and kiss my daughter. I was on
my feet ready to go rescue her, when I stopped and reminded myself that she
was an adult now and I had to let her live her own life. Still the thought
of her being manhandled in my own driveway was almost too much to handle.
I sat there spying on them for a good fifteen minutes before I saw Brian's
headlights pulling up the drive. He was just in time to break up the last
kiss, and I had never been so happy to see him. As his lights flashed into
the car, the two broke apart and I caught just a passing glimpse of the young
man and I stopped breathing for a second. He looked just like, no it can't
be, there is no way fate is that
cruel.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
I pulled into the driveway to find Kaelin and some
strange boy kissing in the blue Mustang parked in the drive. For a moment
I thought I was dreaming, because Kaelin had never been one to sit out in
the driveway with a boy, least of all kissing one. Opening the door, I stepped
out just as my daughter did.
"Evening there kiddo," I said to her. She looked down
at her feet embarrassed and I did nothing to make the situation any easier
for her. "Invite your friend in, I'm sure your dad would love to meet
him."
The tall young man, carefully unwrapped himself from
the small sports car and came around to introduce himself. He towered over
me and I was by no means what you would call
a short man. I looked up into a face from the past and I think I must have
looked like I had seen a ghost because Kaelin came running
over to hold onto me. The young man extended a hand
and introduced himself. Chuckling I invited him inside to meet Kaelin's other
father and couldn't wait for Justin's reaction to the young man his daughter
was dating.
As we approached the front door, Justin flung it open,
and I kissed him gently on the lips, trying to hide my laughter. Stepping
beside him I turned to face the young couple just behind me and introduced
him to our daughter's boyfriend.
"Justin, I'd like you to meet Evan Gold." I
watched my partner's confused look and tried to hold back my laughter. Justin
stood stunned to be looking up into his ex-lover's child's eyes. Now it seemed
our daughter and Mr. Gold were pretty serious from the protective way he
held her. I watched him intently as Justin stammered his way through a
greeting.
Evan held onto Kaelin's waist protectively, as if
he were the one thing between her and disaster. It reminded me a lot of how
I held onto Justin. He gazed at her with love obvious in his eyes and I wondered
just how long they had been dating and just how serious this was. Without
thinking I asked the question that had been plaguing me since realizing just
who this young man was.
"So Evan, how serious is this relationship with my
daughter?"
Evan looked at me like a deer caught in the headlights
and took a deep breath before answering. "Well sir, we've only been going
out a short time, but I know that she is a very special young lady and I
would like the chance to know her more."
"Let's go have a seat," Justin interrupted. We stood
back and let the young couple go first and Justin looked up at me. "Brian,
do you know who that is?"
"Yeah, I know. Looks like our daughter is in love
with your ex-lover's child. Now that will defiantly make for some interesting
holidays."
Justin punched me in the upper arm and pushed me towards
the living room, "we have to stop this now before it goes any
further."
"Good luck, Sunshine. Seems to me that they are in
love and you of all people know that there is no stopping a love that is
meant to be."
I watched as Justin took his seat on the edge of the
chair and listened to his line of questioning.
"Kaelin, how serious is this relationship with this
young man?"
"Daddy, I like him a lot. We've only gone out a few
times, but I did meet his parents tonight and they seem really nice. Mr.
Gold even asked about you and dad."
"I just bet he did," Justin spit out. "Kaelin, I don't
want you seeing this boy anymore, do you understand?"
I watched as anger flashed through my daughter's eyes
and was glad it wasn't directed at me. I knew that even though she was a
quiet one, she had a temper that rivaled mine and if Justin thought he could
order her to stop seeing this Evan kid he was in for a rude
awakening.
"Excuse me? You can't just order me to stop seeing
someone. You don't have that right, this is my life and I love
Evan."
"You don't know the first thing about love, little
girl." I bit down on my cheek to keep from laughing out loud, Justin was
digging himself into one very deep grave and even I couldn't save him this
time.
"I know everything about love, you and dad taught
us that love is something you just don't throw away or ignore. We've watched
you two our whole lives and we all know that what you have is special and
that if we're lucky enough to find that then we need to hang onto
it."
"And you think what you have with this kid is love?
You're just deluding yourself, this isn't love, it's pure lust."
"No it isn't daddy, I love Evan."
"And I love Kaelin," Evan added pulling her closer
to him in a protective embrace. I watched this as if I were somehow just
a spectator and I wasn't about to jump in uninvited.
Justin's anger was getting the better of him, "you're
too young to be thinking about love. You need to be focusing on your
future and the rest of your life, not some kid who can't give you
anything."
"I'm not too young and you should know better than
to say that to me, after all these years of telling us how you knew you loved
dad the minute you first saw him and you were only seventeen when you first
fucked him. At least I've waited and known him some before taking my clothes
off."
"You've fucked him?" Justin jumped to his feet and
was in Evan's face, "I'll kill you, you little bastard." I was instantly
on my feet pulling Justin out of the room. Once in the kitchen I sat
him down and shook my head.
"What the hell are you doing Sunshine?"
"Trying to keep our daughter from getting involved
with Ethan's son. You don't mean to tell me that it doesn't bother
you?"
"It doesn't, so what he's related to Ethan. Big deal,
he's not a threat to us. And Evan seems to really care for Kaelin, now how
can that be a bad thing?"
"He's Ethan Gold's kid, for fuck's sake Brian. I don't
want Kaelin involved with him."
"Well you're too late, she loves him and he loves
her. Unfortunately for you, she is just like you in that she doesn't give
up when she wants something. If you keep pushing her you're going to lose
her baby."
We were still sitting at the table when we heard the
front door slam and the car pull out of the driveway. We ran to the front
door just in time to see Kaelin leaving with Evan. I knew in the back of
my mind that this was not going to end well.
