I Want You to Know
Part 41

Sara walked into the house without much fanfare. I had called ahead and given the girls a heads up hoping to keep them from all bombarding her at once and it seemed to have worked. I had already begun planning a special family dinner to welcome her home. My little girl was home and I was beyond excited. The first down the stairs was Kaelin, who hugged her sister tight and openly wept.
One by one the girls hugged her and Sara seemed a little overwhelmed by the
emotion at least until Sascha came downstairs. Putting her hand on her sister's
burgeoning stomach she smiled at her.
"Hey sis, you look like a million bucks. Pregnancy sure agrees with
you."
"Thanks Sascha, you look great too." She looked around the room and turned
back to face her sister, "Now if you'll excuse me I'm tired, I'd like to
go rest for a few if you don't mind."
I watched Sara walk up the stairs and wondered if I would ever see the daughter
I used to know again. This Sara was different, more quiet, more withdrawn,
and I found myself wanting to protect her more than the other girls. I knew
it was a natural feeling considering everything she had gone through in the
last six months. I hoped that what she would find waiting for her in her
room was just what she needed to feel loved again.

I stepped into my dimly lit room and leaned back against the door with my
eyes closed trying to keep from freaking out. I had been so excited about
coming home, but now that I was here I wasn't so sure that I was ready for
it. I felt her before I saw her; I opened my eyes to find Amy waiting for
me. She was the most beautiful vision I had seen in a long time. She sat
on the edge of my bed and smiled at me with open arms. I rushed into them
quickly, kissing her beautiful, soft, cupid bow lips. I hadn't expected to
find her here.
"What are you doing here baby?" I asked her without breaking the hug.
"Welcoming you home. Your dad called and told me and well here I
am."
I kissed her again and made a mental note to thank my dad. "God it's good
to be in your arms again. These last few days without you have been
hell."
I thought about the last week and how my doctor had not wanted me distracted
so Amy hadn't been allowed to visit. I had almost gone insane with missing
her. As much as my dad had been my lifeline these last months, Amy had been
my sole reason for living. I loved her more than I had ever thought possible.
At first I tried to push her away, not wanting her to throw her life away
waiting on me to get better when I wasn't sure I ever would. Amy was stubborn,
luckily, she wouldn't let me, she was always there no matter what.
I sat there on my bed with the love of my life and thought about our future.
She placed her hand on my stomach and the baby kicked her, much to her delight.
She had told me early on that this baby was ours and I loved her even more
for accepting my decision to keep the baby. Some days it was still hard to
think about how this small life growing inside of me had come to be but I
knew that no matter what I loved him or her. With Amy by my side there was
nothing I couldn't do. She gave me the strength to face the day and the courage
to move past what had happened. Without her, I would be dead or worse yet,
lost.
She held me close and stroked my hair and I felt so at peace with
her.

Brian had gone up to bed and I lingered downstairs for a few minutes. I went
about locking up the house and cutting off all the lights, but what I was
really doing was thanking God for bringing Sara home to us in one piece.
She had fought hard for her recovery and in a few months she would be a mother.
I would be a grandfather, shit so would Brian. I bet he hadn't thought of
that before, I'd have to remember to tell him.
Bringing Sara home had done wonders for his mood, he was happier than I remember
seeing him in a long time. I just hoped it lasted. I took the stairs two
at a time and peeked in on the girls. Kaelin and Thea were fast asleep, while
Willow was watching Letterman. Sascha was lying on her bed with a Cosmo and
her headphones on. Sometimes she reminded me of such a little girl. She was
still in for a rough time but it was nice to have her home as well.
I found Sara asleep in Amy's arms. I smiled at the sight, knowing that Amy
had given Sara a reason to survive and I was grateful for that. Amy had become
such a large part of our family and it would be nice to have her in our family
forever. Amy and Sara had made the decision to raise the baby as their own
and Brian and I supported their decision. Amy would be moving in next month.
When both girls had finished school Brian and I would help them move out
on their own and raise their child.
I closed the door quietly and made my way down the hall to my lover. I found
Brian asleep and kissed him softly on the lips before climbing in to bed
next to him. Our family was back together and somehow we would face the trials
and tribulations together. I snuggled closer to him and fell into a deep
sleep.
