Maria

She was my wife.

I was home for minutes. She was alone for years.

I bedded her and then left. She stayed and bore me children.

I sailed the world, she lived in a rented room.

I sought adventure. She found drudgery.

I yearned for command. She yearned for me.

I rose through the ranks of my chosen profession. She raised children.

I killed without remorse. She gave life.

I buried my men. She buried our children.

I often forgot her. She lived for my touch.

She died giving our son life and I don't-care.

I am a monster.
