Night at Yo's

“Casey, what the hell is going on? You know this place holds almost no good memories for me.”

“Because I need a stiff drink, or ten.”

“We haven’t been to Yo’s in ages. Please tell me why you need to drink tonight? We can figure something else out. Let me help you. You look like shit.”

“Thanks for the compliment, Luke. You need a new hairdo.” Casey approached the bar, ordering a shot glass and a bottle of Tequila.

Luke risked a quick glance at his reflection in the window, brushing his hand over his hair. “My hair looks fine, but a few glasses of that and you’ll be laid out on the floor.”

“And that’s why I brought my best buddy with me.”

“To carry you home?” Luke furrowed his brow, still wondering why Casey wanted to get plastered.

“Isn’t that what friends are for?” Casey sat at a table in the far corner of Yo’s then yelled across the nearly empty room. “Don’t you want to get something to drink? It’s my treat tonight.”

Luke shook his head and walked to the table. Leaving his jacket on the back of a chair, he returned to the bar and ordered a club soda.

While waiting for his drink, another man sidled up to the bar. “Hey, what are you drinking? It’s on me.”

Luke looked back and forth, thinking the new addition couldn’t possibly be talking to him. Tilting his head he pointed to himself and mouthed the word me?

“Yeah, you.”

Looking the hot guy up and down, Luke couldn’t help enjoying the flattering offer. “You do know this isn’t a gay bar?”

“However, I do think my gaydar is working perfectly.” The tall muscular man actually winked at Luke. “Having you here does qualify as a gay presence, doesn’t it?”

“Good point, although I’ve never come here to pick up a guy.”

“Then I guess you’re about to get lucky for the first time.”

Chuckling, Luke took the drink the bartender set before him. “Put it on my friend’s tab.” Luke pointed toward Casey, who looked like he was on either his second or third shot. “From the looks of it, I’d better get back before he gets himself fall down drunk in record time.”

“Sorry, pal, I had no idea you were with your boyfriend.” Luke was amused to see the guy frown at his supposed discovery.

“He’s not my boyfriend.”

Perking up, the guy grinned. “Well then--”

As he reached out to touch Luke’s arm, Reid came up from behind and tapped the hottie’s shoulder. “Hands off. That’s my husband, and I don’t share.” Luke grinned knowing Reid used the H-word when he was at his most possessive, both in and out of bed.

“Dr. Oliver?”

“Damn.” Reid pinched the bridge of his nose. “You’re the new kid.”

The guy laughed. “Thanks for the unintentional compliment about my age, sir. Dr. Hughes said you probably wouldn’t remember my name for the first six months.”

“Excuse me, but Reid, you know him?”

“Yes. This presumptive, hopeful, hook-up boy is the newest member of Dr. Hughes' pediatric team at Memorial.”

“You must be Dr. Oliver’s husband, Mr. Snyder.”

“Clearly, Dr. Hughes hasn’t completely filled you in. The name is Oliver-Snyder, and don’t forget it.”

“Yes, Dr. Oliver-Snyder.” The guy turned back to Luke. “I’m Dr. Jason Willis and I hope you won’t hold my behavior against me in the future.”

Luke blushed. “Not at all. It’s good to know I’m still attractive enough to get picked up in a bar.” Then he glanced around Dr. Willis to wink at Reid. “And it’s even better to know my husband still gets jealous if he sees another guy hitting on me.”

Reid made a grumbling noise but didn’t deny it. “You know I think you’re hot. Stop fishing.”

“I’ll save my fishing for later.” Luke grinned broadly. Suddenly, Luke remembered why he was at Yo’s in the first place. “Reid, I’m glad you got here so quickly after I texted you. Something’s not right with Casey.”

“Is that Casey Hughes, Dr. Hughes' nephew? I met him when I signed my contract with the hospital last week.” Jason looked toward the back table. “Dr. Hughes mentioned something significant was going on with him, but he didn’t say what.”

Reid shook his head. “Can’t anyone keep their private life private in this town?” He walked toward Casey, with Luke and the new pediatrician in town following closely on his heels. “Young Mr. Hughes, I have no intention of dealing with alcohol poisoning after hours so I’m cutting you off.” Reid grabbed the now half-empty bottle.

“Casey, are you ready to tell me what’s going on?” Luke sat next to his friend and squeezed his shoulder.

“Allison’s pregnant.”

Reid stared at Luke and shrugged. “Isn’t that a good thing, Mr. Hughes?”

“Only if the kid is mine, and this one seems to have been conceived while I was on a lengthy business trip.”

Luke’s eyes widened. Knowing he and Reid were on the verge of becoming parents, their surrogate six months along, neither was able to voice a response.

Jason Willis scanned the threesome. “Excuse me, but since it doesn’t look like my night is turning out anything like I expected maybe I should take him home.”

Nodding, Luke offered a grateful half-smile. “That would be great. Why don’t you take him to his uncle’s place.” Grabbing a napkin, Luke wrote the address for the new member of the Oakdale community.

After returning the bottle of Tequila to the bar and settling the tab, Reid pulled out his cell phone and started punching in a phone number. “I suppose I should call Chris and tell him who to expect, and in what condition. The things I do for the insane people of this town.” Reid rolled his eyes. “That girl is an intern on my staff and now she’s adding more fodder to the nurses’ gossip mill -- just what the hospital needs.”

Luke leaned toward Reid and kissed him on the cheek. “Thank you for helping take care of Casey. You’re going to be a great dad.”

Reid huffed. “Keeping track of my staff and their insane families sure gives me more than enough practice.”

Dr. Willis snorted as he helped Casey stand up and head for the door. “I’ll make sure he gets home safely.”

Casey stared at the virtual stranger holding him upright. “We met the other day. You have bigger eyes than my wife.”

“Too bad Casey’s not gay.” Luke watched as Casey leaned on the new doctor in town. “He and Jason are kind of cute together.”

“I’ve always thought your little blond friend was bi.”

“Reid!”

“You never know.” Reid’s smirked.

“Well, how about we go home and I show you how much I appreciate it when you pay attention to this gay man.”

“Lead the way, blondie.”

“That’s Mr. Oliver-Snyder, sir.” Luke winked as he grabbed Reid’s hand and pulled him out of Yo’s.
