Chapter 4

“I can’t believe we’re lying in your office... naked!”

“Power and privilege go hand in hand.  I’m making the most of a huge office and a lock on my door.”

“And the ability to scare your assistant into never asking any questions.  Although I think she’s more amused than mortified.”

Reid laughed.  “Her combination of fear and amusement help her do her job.”

“You know, I should be extremely angry with you for keeping the twins a secret for so long.”  Luke ghosted his fingers along Reid’s jawline.

“Yet here you are.”

Reid could feel Luke’s smile against his neck as he tenderly kissed him.  “With an incredibly, and pleasantly, sore ass.”

“Some people have a way with words; I have a way with--”

“Reid!”  Luke’s head popped up, his expression working toward shocked, but the grin plastered on his face a complete giveaway.

Wrapping his arms around Luke, drawing him back down against him, Reid sighed.  He had never dreamed love could be so amazing, and so hot.  He actually had a family and the hottest sex life.  Reid couldn’t ask for anything more.

“We have to tell Ethan tonight.”

“I know.  Do you think he’ll be angry about having to share us with two more kids instead of one?”

Propping himself up on one elbow, Luke brushed his free hand over Reid’s cheek.  “He’s thirteen, and he has a whole slew of older siblings.  My guess is it won’t faze him one bit.”

“Do you think I can do it?”

“I think you did it just fine a couple of minutes ago, but I’m game for another round if you are.”  Luke snickered.

Reid slapped Luke on the arm.  “Not that, although it’s a great idea.”

Furrowing his brow, Luke gazed at Reid.  “What are you talking about?”

“Do you think I can be a decent father?  I mean, I was concerned with just having one baby, but two.  I’m not sure I’m capable.”

“When did you ever suffer from self-doubt?  You’re Reid Oliver-Snyder.  You can do anything you want, and probably better than anyone else ever has.”

“It’s good to know I have your unbiased endorsement.”  Reid closed his eyes, resting his head against the sofa’s cushioned arm.  “This is different than anything I’ve ever attempted before.”

Luke sat up, drawing Reid up with him.  Holding his hands he looked directly at Reid.  “You’ve been a wonderful father to Ethan, and a great parental role model for Natalie and Faith even though you’re their brother-in-law.  When we lost my mom and dad, they looked to you as the new father-figure in their lives.”

“I think you’re confusing me with a cop named Jack.”

“Sure, they deferred to Jack for a lot of things, but it was you they came to for the big stuff, the important advice,” Luke lowered his head and closed his eyes as he continued, “and the love they lost.”

Reid found himself unable to listen to anymore.  He kissed Luke deeply, pressing his tongue past his partner’s lips.  Although it was a strategy to end the conversation, when Reid pushed into Luke, holding him close, feeling Luke’s legs tightly wrapped around his waist, the two became lost in their love for one another, all sad thought left far behind.

*~*~*

By the time Ethan finished his homework, Luke and Reid had the table set for dinner.

“I hear his guitar.”

“A sure sign he’s done with math for the night.”  Reid huffed.

“Casey called earlier.”

Reid’s eyes widened, waiting to hear the next installment of the Young and the Bisexual.

“He told Allison he’s thinking about moving out.”

“I’m sure that went over well.”  Reid placed the salad on the table.  “Did he tell her why he was moving out?”

“I’m not totally sure, but he mentioned something about not raising someone else’s kid and wanting to explore possibilities for a new life.”

“Code words for, Get your baby’s daddy to support you and I want to check out the dark side with a hot doc I recently met.

Luke elbowed Reid in the ribs.  “I wish I could argue with the crass way you put things, but in this instance you’re right.”

“So who’s the daddy?”

“What?”

“I mean of my intern’s unplanned spawn.”  Reid rolled his eyes.  “I know who Casey is playing house with.  I wonder how he likes really living on the other side.”

“He still hasn’t told me who the baby’s father is, and from the sound of it, I got the feeling your new pediatrician walks on water.”

“Does he now?  I’ll have to inform Chris of Dr. Willis’ special talents.”

“Should I be worried that you remembered his name?”

“You’re the one he hit on at Yo’s.”  Reid smirked.

“Only because you hadn’t arrived first.”

“So Casey Hughes is playing doctor with Jason Willis.  The nurses’ station should be all lit up tomorrow -- especially if I wasn’t the only one who spotted them outside Al’s.”

Before Luke could respond, Ethan bounded into the kitchen.  “Is dinner ready?  I’m starving.”

“He’s definitely your son.”  Luke huffed.

Reid smiled.  He never tired of hearing that sentence no matter how sarcastically it was uttered.

The three sat down and enjoyed their dinner, consisting completely of take-out from Al’s Diner.

“How come you brought home all my favorites?  Is something wrong?”

Reid glared at Luke.  “I told you he’d catch on.  Subtlety is definitely not your strong suit.”

Shrugging, Luke faced his younger brother.  “We have some news about our new addition.”

“Everything’s okay, isn’t it?  I mean the kid’s alright?”

“Ethan calm down.  Your brother leans toward the dramatic, including frighteningly prolonged pauses.”  Reid sighed.  Two Snyders could easily equate to four times the amount of drama.  Well, it was now one Snyder and one Oliver-Snyder.  He never got tired of the sound of that either, despite how cheesy he initially thought the concept of hyphenating their names would be.

This time it was Luke’s turn to glare, but he quickly refocused his attention on Ethan.  “You see, the new baby is, are, twins.  We’re having two.”

“Holy shit!”  Ethan’s eyes were so wide, that Reid, despite his medical knowledge to the contrary, wouldn’t have been surprised if they popped out spontaneously.

“Ethan!”

“Give it a rest, Luke.  You can’t dump big news like that and expect me to watch my damn language.”

Luke pressed the heels of his hands against his eyes.  “Oh God.  You’re definitely Reid’s son.”

Ethan sat up straighter and grinned in response to Luke’s comment.  “So you two both got Molly knocked up.  Are you going to find out whose kid is whose?”

Reid jumped in.  “No.  We told you about the surrogacy process.  In this case, we both had sperm that fertilized the eggs of a donor and were both implanted in Molly.  They’re both our children, and unless medically necessary, that’s how we’re keeping it.”  Taking a sip of water, Reid squeezed Ethan’s shoulder.  “Are you okay with this?  We know it’s a huge surprise.  To be honest, I knew for a lot longer than Luke, but I kept it quiet until I knew both babies were healthy and no complications were in sight.”

“Sure I’m okay.  Just remember, I still get to play my guitar and never have to change a diaper unless there’s babysitting cash behind it.  The deal’s still on, isn’t it?”

Reid snorted.  “Good to know you still have your priorities straight.”

“Hey, can I take my cake and watch MTV?  Since you seem to want to butter me up for the rugrat invasion, it only seems fair.”

While Luke’s eyes narrowed, Reid nodded.  “Just this once.”  He faux whispered, “You know how your brother gets about crumbs on the sofa, so be careful.”

Running off, cake and fork in hand, Ethan left Luke and Reid alone in the kitchen.

“Next time we have sex on the sofa, I’ll fuck you into a pile of itchy crumbs.  See how you like it.”  Luke winked as he stood up to start clearing the table.

“I’ll make sure to vacuum any remains from Ethan’s indulgence.”

“Good.”

Reid wrapped his arms around Luke’s waist from behind.  “Anything for you.”  Reid suddenly became serious.  Luke turned to face him.  Reid’s breath hitched at seeing the love in Luke’s eyes.  “I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and think this will all disappear.  Having you in my life--”  He stopped speaking, unable to verbalize the depths of his thoughts.

“I know, Reid.  You’re everything to me too.  I still can’t believe we’re going to have children together.”

Holding Luke close, Reid pressed their lips together.

“It’s a good thing we don’t plan to find out which baby is genetically connected to which father.”  Luke’s voice was soft, bordering seductive.

“Why?” Reid whispered, placing kisses along Luke’s jawline and down to his neck.

“Because I’d probably favor yours.”

“Huh?”

“He or she would be part of you, and I wouldn’t be able to resist.”

“I’m not sure if that’s true, but it’s probably one of the nicest things you’ve ever said to me, Luke.”

“I love you, Reid.”

“That’s the nicest.”  Reid laced his fingers in Luke’s hair, crashing their lips together far more intensely.  “I love you.”

“You’re right, that is the nicest.”

“We have to wait for Ethan to head upstairs, or we could tell him to watch at least another hour of MTV.”

Luke’s grin extended from ear to ear.  “You really are the most brilliant man I know.”

“So I keep telling you.”

As the two entered their bedroom, Luke locked the door.  “I wonder if this is what Casey and Jason are doing now.”  He chuckled.

“No one else is in this room.  You can think about your hot buddy and his hot new prospect tomorrow.  For the rest of tonight, it’s just you and me.”

“Yes, sir, Dr. Oliver-Snyder.  I was just thinking how much I need a thorough exam from my favorite physician.”

“Mmm, I concur with your program for the night.”

Reid and Luke slowly stripped one another, touching every inch of skin as it was exposed.  The two crawled onto their bed together, no further thoughts on anyone, or anything, but each other.

As Reid thrust into his lover they began the rhythm perfected over years of love, need, and desire, yet it never got old.
