These Dreams

Inspired by the music by Heart and of course, our boys, Brian and Justin.  Special thanks to Gina who found the right pics.

Liberty Avenue was packed with wall to wall people all out and proud celebrating summer and Pride.  It was a beautiful sunny day with warm breezes carrying the scent of perfume and barbecue.  Music filled the air with sounds of thumpa thumpa.  Anyone who could, was dancing in the streets.  The gang was there celebrating each in their own ways with their partners.  Children ran free with no traffic to worry about, watchful adults keeping their collective eyes on all the youngsters.

Pride week culminated with the Pride parade.  This year  Brian decided to march with Justin.  There was no specific reason, no celebration of an anniversary or significant event in their lives.  Justin simply asked and Brian said yes.  Justin inwardly jumped for joy as Brian took his hand to begin the long stroll down Liberty.  Outwardly Justin kept his cool as he clasped Brian’s strong hand.  Brian casually nodded at friends and acquaintances as they walked.   Justin beamed a proud sunshine smile.  After having dinner with the gang at Debbie’s, Brian and Justin returned to the loft.

“Why, Brian?” Justin asked as Brian handed him a beer.

“It’s hot, I thought you could use a cold beer.  I’m having one,” Brian looked down at the bottle in his hand.

“I didn’t mean the beer, I mean why did you march with me today?  You’ve never done that before,” Justin asked as Brian settled next to him on the sofa.

“You asked me to march so I did.  Don’t make something out of nothing.”

“Okay, Bri.”  End of conversation.  They quietly sipped their beer.

Later that night after a mutually satisfying shower and several satisfying rounds of fucking, the boys fell asleep.

Sometime during the night Brian woke with a start; weird dreams and nightmares plagued him for no good reason other than just to be annoying.  He stared up at the ceiling catching his breath as muted moonlight filtered through the loft windows.  He turned to look at Justin who slept the sleep of the sated.  Brian carefully caressed Justin’s forehead swiping away at the stray lock of hair that hid the tiny reminder of bad times.  It was that one moment in their lives that was responsible for most of Brian’s nightmares.  At the same time, it eventually made Brian take a good long look at himself, although it did take several years for that look to have any true meaning.

Brian continued to stare at Justin’s sweet face.  Brian smirked, one might have said sweet and innocent face, but Brian knew better.  There was nothing innocent about Justin except his unjaded enthusiasm for his art.  That was one thing no one could take away.  Justin was living his dreams, reaching his full potential as an artist.  It was that fact that gave pride a whole new meaning for Brian.  He gently placed a soft kiss on Justin’s forehead, turned over and went back to sleep.

Justin awoke as the sunlight shone brightly through the loft windows.  As he stretched the morning kinks out of his body Justin felt the familiar burn in his nether region.  He had gotten quite a workout before going to sleep.  Brian was still asleep, if the wheezing coming his side of the bed was any indication.  Justin turned, smiling down at his peacefully sleeping partner.  Yesterday was a good day and a better night according to his ass.

Before getting up to make breakfast Justin allowed his mind to wander.  His dreams of being a sought after artist were coming true.  He had the support of family and friends, more importantly he had Brian’s support and love.  Justin had no doubt about Brian’s love, and yesterday, walking together was the ultimate proof of their partnership.  Justin may have once been the King of Babylon but his true crowned Prince was the man sleeping next to him, wheezing noises and the worst case of bed head notwithstanding.  Justin laughed to himself, gave Brian a soft peck on the cheek then rolled out of bed to start breakfast.

“Hey Sunshine!” Brian greeted Justin as the smell of fresh brewed coffee woke him up and brought him to the kitchen.  Brian leaned down to give his partner a kiss.  “What’s all this?” Brian asked as he arched a brow at Justin’s breakfast feast.

“Just feeding the furnace.  We got a good workout yesterday,” Justin replied waggling his eyebrows.  Brian rolled his eyes as he bit down on the slice of toast that Justin thrust into his mouth.  They leisurely ate their breakfast in no rush to be anywhere anytime soon.

“Bri?” Justin said a while later.

“Hmm?” Brian answered as he lifted his eyes above his computer screen.

“Dance with me,” Justin said as “These Dreams” was playing on the stereo.  Brian almost refused, knowing Justin wouldn’t berate him, but then he figured why the hell not.  Justin didn’t ask him to dance in the middle of Liberty although it wouldn’t have been the first time that he and Justin danced in the streets.  Brian got up and walked up to Justin, gently taking him into his arms.  They slowly danced as the last few refrains of Heart’s song filled the loft.

When the song ended neither man made any move to part.  They held each other, gently swaying to the music of their own hearts and dreams.

These Dreams

Spare a little candle, save some light for me. Figures

Up ahead moving in the trees. White skin in linen,

Perfume on my wrist, and the full moon that hangs over

These dreams in the mist.

Darkness on the edge, Shadows where I stand

I search for the time on a watch with no hands,

I want to see you clearly, Come closer to this

come closer to this

But all I remember are the dreams in the mist

CHORUS

These dreams go on when I close my eyes. Every second

Of the night, I live another life. These dreams that

Sleep when it's cold outside, every moment I'm awake,

The further I'm away.

Is it cloak and dagger, could it be Spring or Fall?

I Walk without a cut through a stained-glass wall.

Weaker in my eyesight, a candle in my grip, and words

That have no form are falling from my lips.

CHORUS

These dreams go on when I close my eyes. Every second

Of the night, I live another life. These dreams that

Sleep when it's cold outside, every moment I'm awake,

The further I'm away.

BRIDGE

There's something out there I can't resist. I need to

Hide away from the pain. There's something out there

I can't resist.

The sweetest song is silence that I've ever heard.

Funny how your feet in dreams never touch the Earth.

In a wood full of princes, freedom is a kiss. But the

Prince hides his face from dreams in the mist.

CHORUS

These dreams go on when I close my eyes. Every second

Of the night, I live another life. These dreams that

Sleep when it's cold outside, every moment I'm awake,

The further I'm away.

CHORUS

These dreams go on when I close my eyes. Every second

Of the night, I live another life. These dreams that

Sleep when it's cold outside, every moment I'm awake,

The further I'm away.
