Anniversary Blues

Well you know just what you do to me
The way you move soft and slippery
Cut the night just like a razor
Rarely talk and that’s the danger
It’s the one thing
You are my thing

Having naturally drifted off for a bit after some exertion with his lover, Brian woke a short time later when the phone rang. He heard Michael leave a message wondering why they weren’t at Babylon with the rest of the gang. He slipped out from under the duvet and shivered. Justin always had the air conditioner on high, the kid had to have ice water in his veins.

As he shuffled from one foot to the other while sliding into a pair of sweats, Justin immediately noticed his absence as usual and instinctively rolled onto Brian’s side, burrowing into the warm spot the older man left behind. Even though he was content with the heat, it wasn’t enough and his eyes slowly blinked open. "Bri?" he called, licking his dry lips.

You know your voice is a love song
It’s a catcall from the past
There’s no ice in your lover’s walk
You don’t look twice cause you move so fast
It’s the one thing

"I gotta piss, go back to sleep."

"Did the phone ring?"

"It was Michael. We said we’d be at Babylon tonight."

Justin yawned and stretched. "Right. Do you want to go?"

Brian shrugged, "I might."

"Do you want me to go?"

"Whatever," Brian said over his shoulder as he disappeared into the bathroom.

When he came back out a few minutes later, Justin was asleep again. That solved that problem. Regardless of what other people thought, they weren’t fucking joined at the hip. Brian quickly dressed, ignoring the eyes he suddenly felt boring into the back of his head. He was almost ready when he let himself cast a sidelong glance at the bed. He fully expected Justin to be glaring at him--eyes blue as ice piercing his skull--but the blond hadn’t stirred.

You’ve got a dozen men behind you
You’ve got dead flowers on the floor
You’re too pretty in the daylight
It keeps them coming back for more
It’s the one thing
You are my thing

Brian stared at the sleeping man and flipped on the blue lights over the bed. They hummed softly before popping to life and bathing their bed in a cool glow. He pulled the duvet back, watching each inch of luminous skin being slowly exposed. Justin shifted unhappily, curling into himself before realizing the futility of it and opening his eyes again. "What—I’m cold."

Brian ran his hand over bare skin, his eyes telling him it should burn like frostbite, but he knew better. It was the one thing he knew for certain. "No, you’re not."

It’s the one thing
You are my thing

(The lyrics are from "The One Thing" by INXS)
