Sick Day

Part 2

Brian heard the buzzer and let's Jennifer up. He checked on Justin again before sliding open the loft door to wait for the mother. When the lift stopped, he lifted the grate for Jennifer to step out. He followed her into the loft and watched her go to work taking care of Justin.

"He's burning up. Was he playing in the rain?" Jennifer asked.

"Yeah. I yelled at him to get inside but he refused. He wanted to be a child and play." Brian sighed, shaking his head. "Sometimes I forget he's still young."

"That's our Justin." she chuckles.

"Lemme 'lone" the lump under the blankets that was Justin muttered.

Chuckling, Jennfer followed Brian out to the kitchen. She get's the soup out of the shopping bag she brought with her.

"I brought some soup and other foods for him to eat while he's sick that won't upset his stomach, Brian." she explained as she got the pot out to fix Justin's soup.

"Thanks, Jen. I'd be lost without help. I'm not good at this mothering shit." he sighed.

"You're doing fine so far, Brian. You did what you could. You know you can call me if you need help."

"Why do you put up with me, Jen?" he asked.

"Because my son loves you and my daughter adores you. She thinks he's good for you." she chuckles.

"She's a smart kid." he laughs, shaking his head at the thought of Molly telling Jen how good Justin is for him. Maybe she was right.

Leaving Jen with the soup, Brian went back to the bedroom and crouched by the bed, watching his lover sleep. He studied the young man's face and tried to imagine his life without his Sunshine. He realized he couldn't and that terrified him greatly. He brushed a kiss against Justin's forehead and tucks him in. Gives the blonde's forehead on more kiss before rejoining Jennifer in the kitchen.

"He's asleep now. If you want, put it in a bowl and shove it in the fridge. I'll heat it up for him later." He said softly.

"Alright, Brian." Jen replied as she did what he suggested.

"Jen, you think you'll ever like me?" he asked her in a soft voice.

"I do like you, Brian. If I didn't, you'd know about it." she said with a smile, laying her hand on his arm. She studied his face and frowned. "Your mother never took care of you like this, did she?" Jen asked.

"She never hugged me after I started to walk." he muttered.

Brian was shocked when the blonde woman enfolded him in a warm, motherly hug. She stroked his hair softly as she murmured the words he never heard from his mother.

"I'll always take care of you." she whispered to him. She wasn't surprised to feel his tears soak through the sleeve of her blouse. She just smiled sadly as she comforted the man who never had been boy.
