Baby Games

Gus was in his glory. Sitting on dada’s lap was one of his favorite places to be. Brian smiled as his son enthusiastically patted his hands, encouraging his dad to play his favorite game. “Patti-cake.” Brian said. The baby patted his hands furiously, giggling loudly, he turned to make sure that Justin joined in too. Justin laughed and began to pat his hands, drawing even more giggles from the toddler. “Where are your eyes?” Brian cooed. The baby abruptly stopped patting his hands, and covered his eyes. Dada and Justin cheered their approval. Brian continued the game. “Now show me your nose.” The tiny hands moved quickly to his nose. More cheers brought more giggles. “Where are your ears?” Gus took a moment to ponder that one before covering both ears. “Now show me your tum-tum.” That one was easy. The baby patted his belly with both hands.

“Very good!” Brian and Justin patted their hands and laughed in unison. “Dada, kiss-kiss.” Brian said. Gus held his father’s chin and gave him a juicy kiss on the lips. “Baby, kiss-kiss.” Brian smiled, and puckered up for a second sloppy smooch. Gus reached over, threw his arms around Justin’s neck, and gave him a wet one on the mouth. A surprised Brian and Justin looked at each other. Gus patted his hands and giggled.

“You taught him that.” Justin said.

“No I didn’t, I swear I didn’t.” Brian laughed. “Baby kiss-kiss.” he said again. Once again Gus reached for Justin. Brian fell back on the park bench laughing hysterically.

“It’s not funny.” Justin said accepting another juicy smooch. Gus patted his hands and giggled.

“I’m sorry.” Brian said between breaths. “I can’t help it, it’s funny. Gus thinks you’re his age. That’s funny.” Brian fell apart again.

“Come on Gus, dada’s loosing his mind.” Justin said. Gus clung to Justin’s neck, and giggle as the teen carried him off to the toddler swings. The child’s voice rang out with laughter as Justin pushed him back, and forth. Brian watched from afar as his two babies played, unaware of the woman who had taken a seat beside him.

“Beautiful boys.” she said.

“Thank you.” Brian smiled.

“Are they both yours?” she asked.

“Yeah they’re both mine.” Brian said.

“The little one looks just like you.”

“That’s what everybody says.” Brian beamed with pride.

“I guess the older one must favor his mom.”

“Yes he does.” Brian agreed.

“Is it safe to say that you like blondes?”

“Pardon me?” For the first time Brian turned to look at the buxom blonde woman sitting next to him.

“I’m assuming that your older boy is blonde like his mom. Is it safe to say that you like blondes?” she repeated.

“Love them.” Brian smiled.

“How long have you been married?”

“I’m not married.”

“In that case, I’m Saundra.” she said extending her hand.

“Brian.” he said, returning the handshake.

“I’ve never seen you here before Brian, is today a special day?”

“Not really. I just thought I’d take my boys out for ice cream.”

Saundra crossed her legs and moved closer. “How sweet. I love ice cream.” she flirted.

“Where are your kids?” Brian asked, attempting to redirect the conversation.

“I don’t have any.”

“Then why are you here?”

“To meet handsome, single dads, who like blondes.” she smiled.

Brian’s attention was suddenly averted to the toddler swings where Gus could be heard screeching. The battle was on as Sonny-boy arched his back, and kicked in protest. “He doesn’t want to get out of the swing.” Justin called out.

“It was nice meeting you Saundra.” Brian said, relieved to have an excuse to exit.

Saundra watched as her handsome prey went to attend his young. When Gus was just as uncooperative with his dad, Saundra decided to come to the rescue. “Let me help you with that gorgeous boy.” she said. Curious Gus relaxed at the sight of the strange blonde woman, and allowed her to lift him from the swing with ease. “Look at the baby. What’s your name pretty baby?” she cooed.

“His name is Gus.” Justin said.

“Justin this is Saundra. She likes single dads, who like blondes.” Brian said.

“I’m pleased to meet you Justin.” Saundra smiled.

The teen quickly glanced at Brian, then back to Saundra, as Gus struggled to get away from the stranger. “Hello Saundra.” Justin said.

Saundra handed Gus to Justin. The toddler clung to Justin’s neck, and looked back at the strange woman. “He certainly loves his big brother.” Saundra said.

Justin leered at Brian, who was standing behind her, and sporting the most impish grin. “We’re going for ice cream Saundra. Would you like to come?” Brian quickly asked.

“I’d love to.” she said.

Justin and Saundra found a vacant table while Brian went for their sundaes. Gus continued to cling to Justin, as he kept an eye on the strange woman. “What grade are you in Justin?” Saundra asked.

“I’m a freshman.” Justin said. Gus settled onto Justin’s lap, and began playing with the napkin holder. He pulled each paper towel out one by one, and handed them to Justin.

“You’re a very handsome young man.” Saundra said.

“Thank you. How do you know Brian?” Justin asked.

“We just met. I noticed how he was watching you, and your brother play on the swings. He’s a very attentive father.”

“Ah huh.” Justin nodded. Brian was up to something.

Brian returned with the sundaes, and began passing out his treats.  “Have my boys been keeping you entertained.” he asked.

“Very much.” Saundra said.

Brian placed hot fudge royale sundaes, with extra nuts in front of Justin, and Saundra. Gus reached for the plain vanilla. “I hope hot fudge is ok.” he smiled.

“This is just fine. Where’s  yours?” Saundra asked.

“I’m watching my figure.” Brian said.

“I like your boys.” Saundra smiled.

“They’re my joy.” Brian smiled, and gave each of his babies a kiss on the forehead. He fed Gus a scoop of ice cream, and dabbed the toddler’s mouth with a napkin.

“What kind of work do you do Brian?” Saundra took a scoop of her sundae.

“I’m in advertising.” Brian fed Gus another scoop. This time the toddler wiped his own mouth. Brian looked at Justin. “Are you alright baby?”

“I’m fine.” Justin said cautiously. Gus reached over and wiped Justin’s mouth with the napkin.

Saundra smiled and continued. “Would I have seen any of your work?”

“I’m sure you’ve seen the Liberty Air commercials. That’s my most recent campaign.” Brian fed Gus another spoonful. Gus took the spoon from his dad, and tried to feed Justin.

“Stop it Gus.” Justin said. The toddler arched his back and fussed in protest.

“What a bright baby. He’s mimicking you with his brother.”

“I’m not his bro...” Gus shoved the spoon into Justin’s mouth.

“Gus thinks Justin’s the baby.” Brian said.

“How sweet, and interesting.” Saundra said. “Why would he think that?”

Brian placed his arm around Justin’s shoulder, and turned the teen’s face to his. “Because I call him baby.” he purred.

Saundra watched in disbelief as Brian snaked his tongue down Justin’s throat.  “Oh my god!”

“What’s wrong Saundra?” Brian asked. “It’s just a little baby kiss-kiss.” Gus took his cue. The toddler threw his arms around Justin’s neck, and gave him an ice cream smooch on the mouth.

Saundra stood up, accidentally knocking over her chair. “You sick fuck. I’m calling the police!” she said. Gus patted his hands and giggled.

Justin watched as Saundra stormed off. “Brian, why did you do that?” he whined.

“I tried to be nice, she wouldn’t go away.”

“She’s going to get the police!”

“Bullshit, she won’t go to the police.” Brian said nonchalantly. “She’ll go somewhere, lick her pride, then throw herself at some other poor slob.”

Justin turned to Gus, and began to tickle the toddler’s belly. “And you, you little rascal, you’re as mischievous as your dad.” he said.

Brian laughed along with his babies. “Let’s go.” he finally said.

They had made it to the jeep when they heard  Saundra’s voice behind them. “That’s him officer, that’s the pedophile!” she pointed.

“Sir, I need to talk to you. Can I see some Identification please?” the officer asked.

Brian turned around. “What for?”

“The lady says she observed you taking sexual liberties with the boy.”

“I’m not a boy, I’m eighteen.” Justin said.

“He was kissing the little one.” Saundra pointed at Justin.

“You lying cunt!” Brian snapped.

“I want to see some IDs from everybody right now, you too Miss.” the officer insisted.

A small crowd was beginning to gather. The officer called for assistance, and a nearby squad car quickly arrived at the scene. “What’s the problem here?” a second male officer asked. His female partner looked at Brian.

“The lady says that she saw this man molesting this boy.”

“I’m not a boy, I’m eighteen!” Justin repeated.

The second officer’s female partner looked at Brian, then smiled. “Brian Kinney! I thought I knew you.” she said. “I’m officer Wines from the forth district. I processed you last week. Frank, you remember Brian Kinney, and Craig Taylor.”

Brian handed officer Frank his drivers license. “You’re the guy in the Armani suit.” he said. “You got into a fight with your boyfriend’s father, and tore up his office.”

“Is that Brian?” The first officer asked, recalling the new favorite anecdote of the station. “Then this must be Justin. How are you man?”

Justin’s face blushed beet red as he shook hands with the officer. Brian looked at the ground, and shook his head. This couldn’t be happening.

“You’re gorgeous honey.” Officer Wines said to Justin. “I can see why you fought for this one Brian.” she smiled.

Officer Frank took Gus into his arms. “Is this your kid Brian?” He asked as the toddler immediately went to work on the shiny buttons of his uniform. “How you doing big guy?” the officer cooed at Gus.

Brian gave in to the irony of it all. “They’re both my babies.” he confessed. “Now if you don’t mind, we have to get the little one home for nap time.”

“Excuse me!” Saundra interrupted. “What the hell is going on here? Are you going to do something or not?”

“What do you want us to do lady? Baby kissing is not against the law.” officer Frank informed her.

“I want the badge numbers of all of you right now! I’ll be speaking to your captain about this.” Saundra threatened.

The crowd began to dispersed. A furious Saundra collected her numbers, and Justin said goodbye to the officers. Brian strapped Gus in his car seat, then took his place behind the steering wheel.

 “Ready to go?” he asked.

Justin looked at Brian. “You know that Lindsey would kill us if she found out about this.” he said.

Brian looked at Gus. “That’s why we’re not going to tell her, are we Sonny-boy?” he smiled.

The toddler laughed in agreement.

Lindsey opened the door, and stepped out onto the front porch to greet her smiling boy. “It’s getting late, I was beginning to worry.” she said. Gus was eager to get into mommy’s arms. “Look at you. Did you have a good time with dada, and Justin?” she cooed.

“I told you he’d be fine.” Brian said. Justin smiled in agreement.

Gus opened his hand, and offered his mother the shiny object he was holding. It was the button the toddler had pulled off of officer Frank’s uniform. “What’s this?” Lindsey smiled.

Brian and Justin looked at each other then made a quick exit for the jeep.
