Fate Wins Out

Part 5

Brian was the first to wake up. Glancing at the clock, he was surprised to see it was 1:00pm. Justin was still asleep with his head on his chest so he tightened his grip and kissed the blond head, eliciting a soft moan.

“Good morning, sleepyhead. Did you sleep well?” Brian asked as Justin’s eyes fluttered open.

“As a matter of fact, I did. How about you?” Justin asked, enjoying the feeling of being in Brian’s arms.

“Better than I have in years.” Brian replied, knowing that Justin was the reason he slept so well.

“Is it really after 1:00? I guess we better get out of bed. I have some redecorating to do. I want to surprise Stacy when she gets home.” Justin said and immediately regretted the reminder of their current situation.

“Justin. I don’t want to get in the middle of you and Stacy, but I need to know what’s going on with you two. I feel like I’ve been thrown into the middle of this and I need to know what to expect.” Brian told him, trying to push back some of the guilt he was feeling. He loved Stacy with all his heart and felt bad about what he let happen while she was away.

“How about we shower and get the coffee started. Then we can talk about this. Okay?” Justin suggested.

“Are you suggesting that we shower together?” Brian said with a smirk.

“No, I wasn’t, but now that you mention it…” Justin replied as he got up and raced to the shower with Brian right behind him.

One hour and two blow jobs later, both men were sitting on the couch drinking coffee, preparing for their talk.

“I guess I’ll start at the beginning.” Justin said hesitantly.

“Justin, if you don’t want to…” Brian didn’t want to push him to open up if he wasn’t ready.

“No. It’s okay. I’ve always known I was gay. Unfortunately, I knew there was no way my father would accept it so I kept my feelings to myself. He wanted me to follow in his footsteps, which included getting married and having children. I figured it wouldn’t be that bad. I always wanted a baby anyway and by that time, I was used to hiding who I was. Stacy’s father works at Taylor Inc. so they introduced us. We hit it off immediately. She is such a wonderful person. She’s been my best friend. I knew that we could be happy together so I decided that she was the one. After we got married, things just seemed to fall into place. Our sex life wasn’t the passionate love affair that most couples have, but it wasn’t that bad either. I started making a lot of money and she was free to do the volunteer work that she loves. Between my job and her fundraisers we kept busy which made it easier to ignore our problems. About six months ago she called me out of the blue and asked me to come home so we could talk.” Justin stopped talking and thought back to the day he found out he was going to be a father. It was the happiest day of his life.

“The baby?” Brian questioned, giving Justin time to gather his thoughts.

“Yeah. She told me she was pregnant. I was so excited but, she wouldn’t let me hug her. Then she told me she knew my secret. She said she knew I was gay. Something about a dream and waking up knowing it was true. She said she was just going to tell me things weren’t working out and leave but since she was pregnant she couldn’t do it. She was scared. We talked about it and I told her that I wouldn’t leave her, that everything would be okay and I would never leave he. We would raise the baby together. Stacy made me promise that I would find someone to be with. That I would express myself. The problem was that there was no one I was interested in. I hit the gay bars a couple of times but I couldn’t help but feel I was doing her wrong. You are the first person that I’ve ever wanted to be with since I got married. The only problem with all this is that I don’t know where to go from here. Do I tell her I’ve been with someone? Does she think I’m going to meet a man and have him move in? Does she think the three of us could live together as one big happy family? I don’t know what to expect from her. I’m not fool enough to think that our night together was anything more than two men unable to fight off a mutual attraction, but now that I know what I’ve been missing, I don’t know if I can go back. This is a mess!” Justin exclaimed, suddenly realizing how absurd the situation was.

“Well, what do you think you should do?” Brian asked, pushing aside his hurt at the way Justin made what they felt for each other sound insignificant.

“I’m not sure. I have all week to think about it, though. Maybe something will come to me.” Justin said, hoping he could find the perfect solution before Stacy came home.

“What about me?” Brian hated sounding like a school girl, but he needed to know what Justin wanted from him.

“I won’t tell Stacy your secret. That’s not my place. It’s your decision if you want her to know.” Justin assured him.

“I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about us. Are we going to pretend that nothing happened between us? I told you last night that I don’t know if I can pretend that there isn’t something between us. I’m not even sure if there is something between us. All I know is that I’ve never felt like this before and I don’t want to just forget that we ever made love.” Brian said as he got up from the couch and walked into the kitchen, putting his cup in the sink. He was standing there, staring out the window, when he heard Justin come up behind him.

“I will never forget making love with you. I’ve never felt like this before either, I’m just so confused. What do you think we should do?” Justin asked, spinning Brian around and looking into his eyes.

“Why don’t we spend the next few days getting to know each other? We can find out if there is something more between us and take it from there. Stacy isn’t coming back until the weekend. That should give us plenty of time.” Brian suggested, excited by the thought of spending the week with Justin.

“That’s a great idea. You can help me redecorate!” Justin exclaimed. He was afraid that Brian would want to go back to Europe to avoid the mess they were in.

“Alright, I’ll help you with the baby’s room, but it‘s going to cost you.” Brian chuckled wickedly.

“Really? What do you charge?” Justin asked with a laugh.

“How about I show you?” Brian asked, leaning down and taking Justin’s mouth in a heated kiss. When the kiss ended, Brian looked into Justin’s eyes, waiting for his response.

“I think that can be arranged.” Justin said as he pulled the man out of the kitchen and up the stairs, prepared to start making payments.

A couple of hours later Brian and Justin were on their way home from the store with everything they would need to work on the nursery. After looking at thousands of paint samples, they were starving and anxious to get home and have something to eat. It had been decided that they would get up early in the morning and start the redecorating, giving them the night to spend together.

“What do you say we cook on the grill? I’m sure there are a couple of steaks in the freezer.” Justin suggested, looking forward to spending a quiet evening at home with Brian.

“Sounds good to me. We could swing by the market and pick up the makings for a salad and a bottle of wine. I make a mean Caesar salad.” Brian replied.

“Perfect. I didn’t realize how hungry I was.” Justin told him as he headed towards the market.

“I’m kind of hungry, too, but I think we should have dinner first.” Brian chuckled as he gave Justin a seductive smile.

Justin looked over at Brian, taking in the look of longing in his eyes and couldn’t help blushing at his suggestion.

After a quick trip to the market, the men made their way home to begin their evening. Justin fired up the grill while Brian created the salad. Once the food was ready, they sat out on the back deck and ate their dinner talking and getting to know each other.

“So I take it you aren’t seeing anyone at the moment.” Justin stated, curious about what Brian’s life was like in Europe. He was starting to wonder how long the man planned to stay in the states. He could feel himself starting to fall for Brian and was worried about what would happen when he returned to Europe. Justin became confused when Brian started to laugh. “What’s so funny?”

“Justin, what we have is the longest “relationship” I’ve ever had. I don’t do boyfriends. I don’t believe in love, I believe in fucking.” Brian explained, but then felt guilty when he saw a look of anguish cross Justin’s face. “I mean…that’s the way I used to feel. Now, I’m not so sure.” He corrected. He wasn’t sure what to believe anymore.

“Want some more wine?” Justin asked, trying to change the subject. The conversation was making him feel uncomfortable. He wasn’t sure what was going on between them, but he knew there was a special spark that neither man wanted to ignore.

“Are you trying to get me drunk so you can seduce me later?” Brian joked, trying to lighten the mood.

“Would I have to get you drunk to seduce you?” Justin asked.

“All you have to do is look at me and I’m hard. I don’t think you would have to resort to alcohol to get what you want.” Brian replied honestly.

“That’s good to know.” Justin laughed, as he stood up to clear away their dishes.

After their mess was cleaned up, the two men snuggled on the couch and watched movies until they were interrupted by the phone. Knowing it would be Stacy, Justin took a deep breath before answering.

“Hello?” He answered, once again pushing aside his guilt.

“Hi, Honey. How are things going?” Stacy asked in her most cheerful voice.

“Good. Brian and I went to Home Depot today and bought the paint. We are going to start working on the nursery tomorrow so it should be done by the time you get home. Then we can order the furniture together and get ready for the new little Taylor to arrive. How are things with you? How is Aunt Joanie?” Justin asked, needing to move the conversation away from the baby.

“I’m doing okay, I guess. I’m a little tired but that’s because your son or daughter has been keeping me up at night. I think I’m carrying a soccer player instead of a baby. Aunt Joanie is doing well. She’s coming home on Wednesday. How’s Brian? I’m really worried about him. I don’t think it’s healthy for him to shut out his family,” Stacy said. She had tried to find out what happened between them all those years ago, but no one would tell her anything.

“Stacy. Whatever happened between Brian and his parents is none of our business. I’m sure he has reasons for not wanting to get involved with the family again. I think you should just let it go. If he wants to call his mother, he will.” Justin assured her, hating that he was talking about Brian while curled up with him on the couch. He felt the man stiffen at his words and looked up to see a flash of pain cloud his eyes.

“I guess you’re right. I just hate to see the family torn apart. Is he there? I would like to talk to him. I feel bad taking off after just seeing him again.” Stacy explained.

“Yeah, just a minute.” Justin said as he pulled the phone away from his ear. Covering the mouth piece he whispered “Are you okay? She wants to talk to you. Do you want me to tell her you’re sleeping?”

“No. I’m alright.” Brian assured him before taking the phone.

“Hey there! How’s my favorite cousin?” Brian asked.

“I’m doing good. Brian, how are you? I feel so bad that I had to leave while you are visiting.” Stacy said, missing Brian completely.

“That’s okay. I know you are doing what you have to do. Besides, it’s not like I have to rush back home. I can stay for as long as you and Justin will put up with me. You just finish up with your family obligations and waddle on home and we can spend some time together then.” Brian joked.

“I do not waddle!” Stacy exclaimed, trying to sound offended.

“Whatever you say Stacy. I’ll let you talk to your husband again. Take care of yourself and I’ll see you when you get home.” Brian said, before handing the phone back to Justin.

“Hey.” Justin said, noticing Brian staring off into space.

“Hey. I guess I’ll let you go back to whatever you were doing. I just wanted to check in and see how you were doing. Good luck with the painting. I wish I was there to help.” She teased.

“You are so full of it, woman! I think you planned this whole thing to get out of helping.” Justin teased back.

“Goodnight, Justin. I love you.” Stacy said, suddenly feeling a little homesick.

“I love you, too. Sleep well.” Justin replied with emotion before hanging up the phone.

Brian felt funny hearing Justin confess his love to his wife after what had happened between them. He noticed Justin seemed a little sad after the call and knew he was feeling guilty again. The situation they were in was definitely causing a lot of anguish and Brian wished there was something he could do to make things easier on everyone. He still had doubts about coming out to Stacy, even though; it was obvious that she was accepting of gay people. Then there was the fact that he was falling for her husband. He couldn’t help but voice his concerns.

“Maybe it would be best if I went back home. Your life seemed a lot easier before I showed up.” Brian said as he rose from the couch and looked at Justin.

“No! I don’t know what’s going to happen between us, but I know I’m not ready to say goodbye to you. Please stay.” Justin pleaded, horrified by the thought of losing Brian.

“Justin. I don’t want to cause problems between you and Stacy.” Brian stated, wishing there was some easy solution to the mess they were in.

“I’m gay, Stacy’s straight. We had problems long before you came along. Let’s just take it one day at a time as planned and see what happens. Alright?” Justin asked.

Brian couldn’t help but smile at Justin. All he had to do was look into his deep blue eyes to know that he was in trouble. Pushing those thoughts aside, he grabbed Justin and placed a soft kiss on his lips. “You ready for bed?” He asked with a twinkle in his eyes.

“I thought you’d never ask.” Justin said returning the smile.

They closed up the house and made their way up to the guest room, hand in hand, blocking out all their doubts, determined to enjoy their time together for fear it was going to be short.
