What Was, What Is, What Can Be

Chapter 6

Brian felt Justin slowly start to respond to the kiss. Justin’s mouth opened and permitted Brian’s tongue to play with his. Brian couldn’t help but moan. After a couple of minutes, Brian pulled back and looked at Justin.

“Why were you… kissing me?” asked Justin.

“I wanted to,” Brian honestly replied.

“Hmm. I feel… I feel as if there’s something. Something between us.”

Brian tried not to smile the big smile that wanted to break free. “That’s because there is. We’re very close.”

“How close?” demanded Justin.

“Close enough for me to kiss you.”

“Brian, are we together? Are we boyfriends?” Justin finally asked.

Brian debated on what to tell Justin. The doctor had wanted him to remember everything on his own. ‘Well, it won’t hurt Justin to know that we were together,’ Brian silently thought.

“Well, we’re not boyfriends. But we are together.”

“Meaning, what?”

“Right now, we have a casual relationship. We see each other, but we also see other people.”

“Oh.” Brian could tell that Justin was disappointed.

“But, I wouldn’t mind it being just us.” Brian admitted. He knew that his family, especially Lindsay and Michael, were going to think he was crazy, but Brian was serious. He had thought about it before, but had never said anything. He had continued to live by his ‘rules’.

“Really?” Justin asked with a shy smile.

“Really. I never say, well hardly ever, anything I don’t mean.” After a short pause, Brian regretfully spoke. “I’d better sneak back out of here before they catch me. But I’ll be back tomorrow night, Sunshine.” Brian gave Justin a quick kiss on the lips and was gone before Justin could reply.

Justin couldn’t help the happy and contented sigh that escaped his mouth. That man, Brian, was so handsome. Like some Greek god. And Brian wanted him. He couldn’t believe it! With a smile, he closed his eyes and dreamed of the auburn haired man.

Across town, Brian was doing the same thing. Only it was a blond haired teen that played the starring role in his dreams.

THE NEXT AFTERNOON

“Jennifer, I’ve had my say and it’s final. Justin is going to a reprogramming camp.”

“Shh, Craig. He’ll hear you.”

“He’s asleep. But, so what if he does? The sooner he knows, the sooner he’ll accept it.”

Justin could hear the two people that he had been told were his parents, arguing. He just didn’t understand what they were talking about. A reprogramming camp? Whatever it was, it didn’t sound good.

“Craig, I just don’t think this is the best way.. I’ve heard awful things about those camps.”

“Jennifer, I’m at my wits end. As long as he comes home normal, they can beat him for all I care!”

Justin couldn’t hold in his gasp.

“Justin, honey—“ Jennifer wasn’t able to finish her sentence. Justin started having a panic attack. Jennifer quickly hit the call button and told the nurse to hurry. When the nurse got there, Justin was in full blown anxiety mode.

“Please leave,” she told Jennifer and Craig.

“Now, listen here,” started Craig.

“Do it. Now,” the nurse firmly said. Seeing no room for argument, they Taylors did as they were told.

Justin’s eyes rolled back, until only the whites were visible. He started shaking. Immediately knowing that Justin was having a seizure, the nurse put two fingers in his mouth to keep him from swallowing his tongue. She was taking a huge risk of getting bitten, but she had no choice. Reaching over, she used the intercom to call for a doctor. She was going to need help and quick.
