Sentencing

When Harry and Lucius reentered the hearing room, they had come to the realization that the events were out of their hands. Harry waited this time at the small table with Lucius. His presence, a silent demonstration of support, was no small comfort to the blond wizard.

From the dark glares Harry received from the flock of redheaded observers, his choice had been duly noted. After everyone had entered and been directed to their seats, Lucius stood silent before the court.

Madame Bones cleared her throat before handing down the court's judgment.

"Wizarding law is quite clear on its stance when compulsion via an Unforgivable is present. Notwithstanding the accused's plea, the Wizengamot finds Lucius Malfoy not guilty on all charges of activities as a Death Eater."

She fell silent as Aurors raised a dampening ward around the observers, cutting off the immediate and loud protests. When the objections were rendered mute, she continued.

"However, Mr. Malfoy, this court would have it be known that we are not convinced you pose no danger to the magical community. For your protection and ours, you are hereby delivered into the custody of Harry Potter in accordance with his Right of Merlin."

"Despite his desire of restrictions on those rights, you shall remain under the direct observation of Mr. Potter until such time as this court is convinced you pose no danger to yourself or others. We ask that you consider assisting in the prosecution of those who did bear the Dark Mark of free will."

"Lucius Malfoy, do you accept this court's judgment?"

Lucius nodded carefully as he spoke clearly, "Yes, Your Honor."

Madame Bones then acknowledged Harry, "And will you comply with this court's directives, Mr. Potter?"

Harry rose to respond, the dark fabric of his robes blending with the blond's as a result of their proximity.

"I will fulfill my responsibilities."

The court was dismissed once more, the two wizards remaining behind in the empty room. His voice echoed off bare walls when Harry finally spoke to his companion.

"I don't agree with this after what you've experienced. It echoes of a Ministry-sanctioned master. But it will keep you safe from those who don't wish to believe the truth."

Lucius had turned his head to watch Harry's face in profile, his hand brushing through the folds of their robes against the younger man's.

"I have seen worse fates than to belong to you."
