New Life

New Life

Part 1

Justin sat on the bed waiting to hear the shower turn on. He had come to New York to start a new life. The only reason why he had taken Brian’s credit card was for the man to come looking for him. That last fuck was a good- bye fuck. Justin knew that in order to start his new life, he would have to say good-bye to his last. He was tired of always being unwanted and being wanted only to be used for something. He wanted to be wanted for being who he was on the inside, not what he could give. If he were to return to the Pitts’ he would never be wanted.

The hour on the clock changed over. Justin looked at it and smiled. This was the first hour of his new life. Time to get moving. He had already placed his backpack by the door; he was already planning to go out today. He quickly pulled some clothes on and grasped his bag. The door closed behind him. It he didn’t hurry, Brian would come looking for him and he would never be able to get away. His fingers grazed the door as he whispered, “Good-bye, Brian.”

For fear of Brian catching him, he took the stairs instead of the elevator. Sure, the elevator was faster, but what if Brian questioned the elevator guy? Besides, this way no one would notice him leaving. The logic may not make sense to most, but it made sense to him.

“Excuse me?,” he asked the front desk cleric.

The woman couldn’t help be charmed by this man who looked so much like a boy. “Yes?”

“There’s a man in room 1818. He’s going to be checking out soon, he asked me to bring down the room key. Could you mind giving him this?,” Justin asked as he held up a thick envelope.

“Of course I could.”

“Thank you so much,” Justin beamed his ‘sunshine’ smile at her.

The woman couldn’t help, but smile back. “You’re quite welcome.”

Justin then turned around and walked to the entrance. He smiled a small smile at the doorman. Right or Left?, he asked himself. He tilted his head up to the sky and laughed out loud. Today was the first day of his new life. There were so many choices to make! He decided on turning right and was soon lost in the crowd.

Brian was upstairs in Room 1818. He had just finished his shower. Wearing only a towel and dripping a bit on the floor, he walked into the bedroom. Justin wasn’t there. He had just left him there a moment ago, and now he was gone. He had to be somewhere in the suite. Brian looked everywhere, but Justin wasn’t in the suite. Brian was now worried. He quickly dried off and put back on the clothes he had been wearing.

Hurried to the elevator. He pushed the down button a few times. The goddamn, fucking thing wasn’t coming fast enough. The doors opened minutes after the thought that.

“Where to, sir?,” the elevator man asked.

“Lobby. Have you seen a blond boy get on the elevator in the last past hour?,” Brian asked.

“No, sir.” Came the answer Brian did not want.

“SHIT!!”

The doors to the elevator opened again and Brian sprang free. He walked quickly to the front desk. He breathed in deeply, trying to bring his cool facade back.

“Miss, I would like to be checking out Room 1818.”

The woman smiled. The blond boy had been right. “Of, course sir. Your key has already been returned. Could you wait just a moment? This is for you,” the woman handed Brian the envelope Justin had given her to give to him. She had already signed him out after the blond had left.

“Thank you. There was a blond boy who returned the key, correct?,” Brian asked, not even looking at the envelope as he put it in his pocket.

“Yes.”

“Could you tell me where he went?”

“You might want to ask the doorman.”

Thank you for all of your trouble, Miss.”

Not a problem,” she said to empty air as the man was already gone.

Brian walked up the doorman. “A blond boy came through here a few minutes ago. Did you happen to see what way he went?”

“ Yes, sir. That one would be hard to miss anywhere. He turned to the right. But, good luck trying to find him. New York is a big place.”

As Brian walked through the door, he thanked the man. He also shook his hand and in the handshake there was a hundred-dollar bill. Brian left and pulled out his phone.

“Mikey, meet me at the Burning Grill in half and hour.”

Brian caught a taxi. It took him 15 minutes to get to one of New York City’s best quick food restaurant. The ‘boys’ were already there, waiting for him. They took one look at him and didn’t ask where Justin was. They all went into to the restaurant and were quickly seated.

“I found Justin. He ran away soon after. He left this,” Brian said, putting the envelope the lady at the front desk had given him.

Brian slowly opened it and turned it upside down. Quite a few things fell out. One of which was the credit card Justin had taken. Attached to it was a note that simply read: ‘Sorry for taking this, Bri. But, it was needed. Don’t worry about the money, you’ll be getting it all back soon. Good-bye, Justin.’

Brian didn’t pay attention to anything else that was there. That simple word, good-bye, stunned him. Only a few hours ago he was sure he was taking Justin back to the Pitts’ with him. Now he wasn’t sure if he would ever see Justin again.
