Nothing Will Keep Us Apart

Part 3

Brian waited until everyone fell asleep and the house was quiet. He took the bag he packed earlier, wrapped Justin in his blanket and silently went downstairs.  “We’re running away Justin. I won’t let them separate us.”

Brian walked outside with Justin in his arms, facing the night. He started running, putting as much distance as he could between them and the house. After a while he got tired, but he didn’t stop until he couldn’t recognize his surroundings. He stood in a middle of a park, and soon he found a bench and sat down. He hugged Justin close to his chest and said: “Don’t worry Justin. We’re safe now. Go to sleep.” Brian sat on the bench with Justin in his arms, watching for suspicious movements. He was tired, but he couldn’t let his guard down.

Morning came, and Justin woke up. Brian changed his diaper, he hated doing it in the middle of the park but he had no choice. “Are you hungry?”

“Yesss.”

“Don’t worry, we’ll eat soon ok?”

“Kay.”

Brian gathered their things and Justin and started walking, their destination unknown...

Some time later, Brian and Justin found themselves in the middle of a busy street. Brian started looking for a coffee shop; he needed hot water for Justin’s formula. Basically, Justin ate everything, but he liked his bottle in the morning and before he went to bed.

After 2 blocks, Brian found a coffee shop and entered confidently, so as not to raise any suspicions.  Brian approached the first waitress that he saw. “Excuse me, may I have some hot water for my brother’s formula?”

“Yes of course. Oh my God, he is so cute. What’s your name sweety?”

“His name is Justin,” Brian answered.

“Hi Justin. I bet you’re hungry. I’ll have your bottle ready in a sec.”

“Thanks, lady,” replied Brian while stroking Justin’s hair.

“No problem. Coming right up.”

Brian sighed in relief when the waitress walked away. ‘So far so good’ he thought to himself. Before he could finish his thought, another waiter came over. Oh wait, it wasn’t another waiter. It was the coffee shop’s manager. ‘Shit shit shit, what does he want?’

“Hey kid, can I help you?” The manager asked Brian.

“No thanks. I’m just waiting for my brother’s bottle.”

“Shouldn’t you be in school? And where is your mom?..."
