Cut It Out

"Cut it."

"No!"

"Jim, you have to."

"No, I don’t. We can try the ice again."

"We’ve tried it three times already."

"But..."

"Jim, it’s all right, it’ll grow back."

"Sandburg."

"Just do it, Jim."

"I can’t."

"Jim, it’s only hair."

"I know but it’s your hair and I ..."

"What?"

"I love your hair."

"And I love yours, what little there is of it."

"Sandburg..."

"Focus, Jim. It’s late and I’m tired. I can’t go to bed with this gunk in my hair and it’s too late to go find a barber. I’ll get my hair styled tomorrow."

"I’ll pay for it!"

"Whatever. Just cut it."

"This is all my fault. If I hadn’t stopped to help Mrs. Murray with her groceries I would’ve taken that call."

"Jim, it doesn’t matter who went on that call. It had to be done."

"Yeah, I know but at least if it was me it wouldn’t be you making this sacrifice."

"Jim, Jim, Jim, it’ll be okay. I promise. It’s not like I haven’t cut my hair before. It’ll grow back, you know that."

"It’s not just the hair."

"I know, big guy. But we’re partners; we’re in this together. Besides, who knew the factory would just blow up like that."

"When it involves you or me, lots of things blow up."

"Yeah, well, it doesn’t matter. Just cut the hair so I can get some sleep."

"Okay, but next time I go into the factory."

"Sure, sure. The next time there’s a problem at the bubble gum factory, you go."

"Deal! Now sit still and hand me the scissors."
