ICE STORM
Part 1
"Brian, I'm freezing."
"Get another blanket."
"They are not helping. The power has been off for 10 hours. Let's go to Deb's,
she has a fireplace. I bet she's even making hot meals."
"I am NOT going on a sleepover!"
"They are going to find us dead inside two big ice cubes."
"If you come over here with me, they'll only find one."
"You're asking me to cuddle, how sweet."
"We'll conserve body heat."
"I knew it, you are cold too.'
"Will you shut up?"
"On top of being cold, I'm bored," sighed Justin.
"I can think of a way to entertain you that would heat you up."
"Are you crazy? It's too cold to take any clothes off."
"How many layers are you wearing, anyway?"
"I've got long underwear, sweat pants and track pants. Then I have a turtleneck,
wool button up shirt, a vest and a sweater. Oh, and three pairs of
socks."
"Not to mention gloves and a very fashionable hat. You own long
underwear?"
"Of course I do, this is
The phone rang and Justin went to answer it. Brian watched and thought about
how to get the kid a good used car. Lost in thought, he didn't hear his boy
on the phone until the very end. "We'll be there as soon as we
can."
"Where in the fuck do you think we are going in the worse ice storm in over
a decade?" Questioned Brian.
"We are going to Mel and Lindsay's, it's getting cold over there and since
Gus is a baby, they are going where it's warmer. Like all sane
people."
"What do we have to do with it?"
"The roads are awful. Don't you want your son in a four wheel drive jeep
instead of Mel's car?"
"I guess you're right. I suppose you are going to make me stay
too?"
"I'm going to stay, so unless you want to come back here without someone
to snuggle to for warmth, I think you should stay."
"Fine! You win, you always do."
"Only when I'm right."
"Call Deb."
"I'm about to, you don't have to snap."
Brian packed a few things for Justin and himself.
"Deb said there's plenty of room, but we should bring extra blankets and
pillows."
"We should take what we can out of the freezer before it goes bad. I'm
sure there'll be a crowd over there," suggested Brian.
"No one yet."
"What about Mikey and Ben?"
"I don't know. They're not at Deb's, maybe they still have power."
"I'll call," said Brian.
Justin emptied the contents of the freezer into an empty shopping
bag.
"Pack light we've just added two more passengers."
"It's going to be a tight squeeze."
"Yeah, but Ben's off his meds so he should be where it's warm."
"What about Ted and Emmett?" Asked Justin.
"Where are they going to sit? On the roof?"
"We could make two trips. I'm calling to see if they are okay."
"We don't even know if we can make it to the munchers," Brian mumbled to
himself as Justin went back to the phone.
"They'll be ready," said Justin when he returned.
"Sunshine, my darling, where exactly are all these people and their shit
going to fit?"
"We can all sit on our pillows to make more room and wrap our blankets around
us."
"They'll get wet, it's freezing rain outside."
"Fuck."
"Plus I'm sure that everyone is bringing food and Gus' stuff fills the jeep
when it's just you, me, and him."
"Shit."
"Exactly. Call everyone back and tell them to pack light because this has
turned into a bus trip without the fucking bus," growled Brian.
